Focus on Standards Initiatives • 2003: HIMSS appointed secretary of ISO/TC 215 and administrator Focus on Standards Initiatives • 2003: HIMSS appointed secretary of ISO/TC 215 and administrator of the US technical advisory group (US TAG) by American National Standards Institute (ANSI) • 2005: Standards activities include: – HIMSS committees, task forces and work groups – National and International involvement 2004

US Technical Advisory Group • Who – US citizens who are specifically interested in US Technical Advisory Group • Who – US citizens who are specifically interested in a particular area of knowledge, in this case Health Informatics • Experts, could be University faculty or informatics specialists • Vendors, who use or market products that use standards • End Users, using the product within their area of knowledge or practice 2004

US TAG for ISO/TC 215 • Each country that holds membership in an international US TAG for ISO/TC 215 • Each country that holds membership in an international technical committee has a national special interest group – In the US this group is called a technical advisory group (TAG) • This TAG is specifically organized to work with health informatics 2004

TAG Member Functions • Initiate and approve new work items within the TAG for TAG Member Functions • Initiate and approve new work items within the TAG for possible inclusion into the ISO/TC 215 work program • Be a part of the consensus building process for draft ISO standards • Represent the US on the ISO/TC 215 international committee 2004

Also, to ensure compatibility of data for comparative statistical purposes (e. g. classifications), and to reduce duplication of effort and redundancies. 2004
