Short DOMAIN NAMES are best. n Pick your Domain Name(s) n If already taken, you may still offer to buy or bid on You bid against others to own. (e. g. , att. com) n It is big business to buy potentially valuable domain names (“futures”) – the shorter they are (att. com) the higher the price. n A Domain Name costs $19/yr. to register (but 1 st year is FREE when combined with a “Hosting Package”) n Cheaper if buy 3 -5 years (or more) registration n E. g. , mine (3): n Knubley. C. bz (me) was registered through company: “Network Solutions” (my preference) n Established company with very good Customer Service n Also “hosts” websites n Also provides simple online website self-design/update tools (i. e. , “Image. Cafe”) vs. 3 rd party website design applications like “Front. Page” [Microsoft] ) n Also offers Profe$sional web design services. n “Hosting” for a website costs +/- $10 per month n The first year of domain name registration is free if you buy a hosting package at the same time n 1 -yr. = $120, 3 -yrs. = $270 (cheaper if longer) 10

Website Hosting 2 n Simplified Internet Process: n Anyone accesses the Internet nowadays through their computer’s internet “browser”: ( Internet. Explorer, Fire. Fox, Safari, others ) n Website Hosts keep your website on their computer while being linked to the World-Wide Web. n If your computer crashes, your website remains with the Host 11

Website Design Knubley-Designed Caveats: n I have only basic skills n I use Network Solutions’ (NS) services n I wanted to design my own site rather than buy Profe$sional Services. n I modify / update my website frequently (often daily). n I have practical Maintenance experience n NS offers close to 200 basic Themes (Templates, Designs) to use, and add more every month (you can change your Website Appearance at any time) n This Presentation is oriented around NS offerings 12

(Today’s Duties) TODAY: n Select your preferred Domain Name(s) (think of a few) n Call NS (and have them Register your Domain Name(s) n n 1 -800 -333 -7680 www. networksolutions. com They will check to see if someone else is already using it n Select a NS web hosting plan (and whether they design Website, or YOU DESIGN Website: ) n n n One Page only 6 -pages only Unlimited pages [e. g. , $80/yr. ] [e. g. , $100/yr. ] [e. g. , $120/yr. ] (I have this plan) n Tonight, gather your content (text and pictures) n (Think of, and) Divide the content so that it will display according to a handful (5 – 10) of different PAGES on your website, e. g. : n n (1) Home [Basics], (2) About Counselor(s), (3) Practice/Specialties/Payment, (4) Pictures, Map, (5+) Contact Info. , etc. You can add to or change Pages at any time 13

(Tomorrow’s Duties) TOMORROW: n Go to NS website and enter through your Account Management (design) tab. n Start using the website self-design process. n Pick a Website Theme from the 200 they offer. n Create Text and Upload all your content to each page n Fine tune, play with, or edit Your Website’s design and content n Preview, and if happy, Publish your website with the click of a button n V i o l a ! You have a World-Wide Web presence! n (The above website design process doesn’t have to take more than a few hours. ) n Update, edit, change, add to – as often as you wish n Add Links, Counter, Map. Quest, Pay. Pal, Down Loads, Music, Video, Images, Assessments, etc. n You may save three older designs at all times n NOTE: With NS, you can change entire Website Layout (Theme) as often as you want! 14

My Help (If you would prefer it) n n n n The following applies whether this will be your First Website, or if you want to Redo Your Exisitng Website: Give me your Vitals (name, address, company and credit card info, email address, password preference). I’ll set up your Account. Give me your desired Domain Name(s) choices (1 st, 2 nd, 3 rd) I’ll Register your Domain Name(s) for 1 - or more years (you decide) through NS Pick the 1 -page, 6 -page, or 6+ page Web Hosting Package for 1 - or more years. I’ll get you images of the Themes to choose from. Pick up to 5 to examine more closely. I set up your Website HOME Page for each of themes for you to visit and select. The Home Page will temporarily state: “Website Under Construction. Call (your telephone number). ” You can Take as much Time as you need to gather info and think about content and design. I am in no hurry. (However, one-time Design Fee is due up-front. ) I take your Content (text, images, etc. ) and create the necessary Pages for you to examine. You Edit/Revise printout of any PAGE for content and images. I’ll Update your website accordingly. For this, I charge a $400 one-time Design Fee for PSt. L Members. After this, you may Edit/Revise/Change/Update your website through me for $40/hr. , prorated. NOTE: A lot of content can be changed within 1 hour! Or, you may take over the maintenance of website yourself, or have me train you to. 15
