The Climate of Great Britain In Great Britain it is never too hot or too cold for work or play in the open air. This is because of the sea, which keeps the island warm in winter and makes the air cool in summer.

Thanks to the mild climate there a lot of evergreen plants in Great Britain. And the country is always green. But the lack of sunshine is the reason why the cultivation of grain crops is difficult. Grass grows all the year round. It provides fodder for cattle.

In winter they have all sorts of weather. Sometimes it rains and sometimes it snows, and they also have fog and frost.

But the worst thing about the climate in Great Britain is the thick fog they so often have in autumn or winter. In London it is sometimes so thick that cars may run into one another.

England is the richest, the most populated part in the country. There are mountains in the north and in the west of England, but all the rest of the territory is a plain. Scotland is a land of mountains. Its highest peak is Ben Nevis.

Geographical position of Great Britain is rather good as the country lies on the crossways of the sea routes from Europe to other parts of the world.

Political System of the Great Britain • Parliament is the most important authority in Britain. • The monarch serves formally as head of state. The present sovereign is Queen Elizabeth II (the second).

There are few political parties in Britain. The main ones are: the Conservative Party, the Labour Party
