GRADE 9 MARKS THE END OF THE GET (General Education and Training Band) A system of promotion is applicable at this point
COMPILATION OF MARKS • CASS (Continuous Assessment): 75% • This assessment is school-based • FINAL EXAMINATION: 25% • This is an internal examination
REPORTING OF MARKS • Term 1: Term 1 CASS only out of 100 • Term 2: Term 2 CASS only + June Exams out of 100 • Term 3: Term 3 CASS only out of 100 • Term 4: All CASS (75%) + Final Exam (25%) provides final promotion mark out of 100

Promotion Requirements In order to be promoted to Grade 10, a learner has to meet the following requirements:
• At least a “Moderate Achievement” (code 3) in one of the official languages • At least an “Elementary Achievement” (code 2) in the other official language • At least a “Moderate Achievement” (code 3) in Mathematics • At least a “Moderate Achievement” (code 3) in four other Learning Areas
CONDONATIONS A learner will be condoned only once in one of the following cases:
• Obtains an “Elementary Achievement” (code 2) in Languages OR • Obtains an “Elementary Achievement” rating (code 2) for Mathematics OR • Obtains an “Elementary Achievement” rating (code 2) in only one of the four other Learning Areas required for promotion.
ACADEMIC ASSISTANCE Learners are expected to make use of: • Clinics • CAMI Maths and CAMI English • Academic Support • Supervised Study
In the event that a learner fails to meet the criteria for promotion and a parent lodges an appeal: • Failure to make use of the academic support facilities offered by WGHS is not viewed favourably by WCED • WCED checks WGHS records of parents’ attendance at information and PTA meetings, other intervention measures and learners’ House Cards, Blue Cards and portfolios

MINIMUM CRITERIA FOR MERIT BADGE 1. HL and FAL 10 points (5 + 5 or 4 + 6) 2. Maths 6 points 3. At least 2 other LAs with 7 points 4. A total of between 52 and 54 points for LAs
MINIMUM CRITERIA FOR ACHIEVER’S BADGE 1. HL and FAL 10 points (5 + 5 or 4 + 6) 2. Maths 6 points 3. At least 4 other LAs with 7 points 4. A total of 55 points or more for all LAs
