EXAMPLE: SOLAR LIGHT IMPACT CURRENT SOLUTION: Kerosene Lantern Quality of Life: - Struggle with basic household tasks in the dim, smoky light - Like Smoking 2 Packs of Cigarettes daily - Cause accidental burns and house fires - Uncomfortable/dangerous for studying NEW SOLUTION: Solar Portable Light Financial: - Monthly Cost: 10 -25% of Household Budget • $10 -15/month on Kerosene, and $5/month on cell charging in Nicaragua - Travel long distances to buy kerosene and pay for mobile phone charging Quality of Life: - Much brighter, making all family members and family businesses more productive - No adverse health effects - No risk of burns or house fires - Studies show increased study time Financial: - Light cost from $8 , wcell charge from $40 - No ongoing costs except if financed - Increased income for business that can extend productive hours - Cell phone charging savings Environmental: -. 08 tons CO 2 per Lantern/year Environmental: - No carbon emissions 5
