Defining Well-Being What is Well-being? § An individual’s well-being is often referred to as Defining Well-Being What is Well-being? § An individual’s well-being is often referred to as happiness, high quality of life, thriving and flourishing. § With so many terms being used to describe well-being, what exactly is it? Although there isn’t a consensus among experts on a single definition, there is agreement that well-being includes: 1 – The presence of positive emotions and moods (e. g. , contentment, happiness); – The absence of negative emotions (e. g. , depression, anxiety); – Satisfaction with life; – Fulfillment; and – Positive functioning.
