Our spring & summer in Valentia There was lots going on in our home this summer. In March saw the coronation of Queen Kitty & King Claude which took place on St Patricks Day. Ann and Dolly worked wonders in our enclosed garden with the help of Kieran and Jackie which resulted in a handful of potatoes, a good crop of scallions and beetroot and different varieties of tasty lettuce & tomatoes. All of these were seeded in the Activity group at the turn of the year. We are all very proud and should do even better next year. Our Royal couple (Kitty & Claude) Planted a plum tree which had been donated by management, the ceremony was well attended with refreshment of champagne and chocolates and the Canon Frank Forbes blessed the tree to bear lots of fruit. Our Summer continued Our summer outing was to Wells House. It was a wonderful day with bright sunshine. We enjoyed afternoon tea on the lawn after a walk around the garden and a visit to the animal section those who wished had a tour of the beautiful house, others cooled down with delicious ice-cream (Kathleen had two). A big thank you to Caroline and the kind volunteers Betty, Mary, Mags, Naula , Robbie , Siobhan, Aoife without them the trip would have been impossible. We hope to have another outing very shortly, perhaps to the Parkside for the craic before the weather gets too cold. Keep checking the blog on our new website valentianursinghome. ie for details and other news. The annual Garden party was a great success despite the weather. Although held inside, when the sun did appear families enjoyed our lovely enclosed garden whilst the rest of us were entertained by the fabulous vocalist Stacey Breen. Caroline & Kieran served refreshments which included wexford strawberries with cream yum! We are always very pleased to see and talk with new people and through the summer each Thursday we had the pleasure of Siofra who is studying to be a counsellor, she took our meditation class and spoke individually to quite a few of us. Good luck in your future career from all your friends here and stay in touch.
