Safety Expectation • Ford Motor Company does not do business with Contractors that compromise safety • Safety violations are not tolerated • We have a moral and legal obligation to protect the safety of our contractors, co-workers and members of the public. • Ford will apply a zero tolerance approach to unsafe conditions and unsafe acts.

Asbestos Awareness • Asbestos – Known asbestos will be labelled, the site asbestos register is kept in the Ranch House information is available from your Ford Representative • If you think Asbestos is present in your working area, STOP WORK IMMEDIATELY AND CHECK.

Specific Access Procedures • There areas on the estate which require specific access procedures. • These include: • • • Private Rail Sidings Jetty Operations Boiler House and Sub-stations Clean Room Engine Assembly areas Data Centres
Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 • All workers have a right to work in places where risks to their health and safety are properly controlled. • Health and safety is about stopping you or persons around you from getting hurt at work or ill through work. • Your employer is responsible for health and safety, but you must help.
Permits To Work Permit For Contractors – 654 N A permit can be issued as a one off or as an annual permit. Issued for specific tasks Permits can withdrawn at any time. A permit is only issued after the contractor has provided sufficient evidence of safety management. • This is not an authority to go anywhere on the Dagenham Estate. • The Dagenham site is classified as a port facility under the ISPS regulations 2004. • • • NO PERMIT means NO WORK

Associated Permits • Additional permits are required for specific work scopes: • Excavation Permit • Hot Works ( inc soldering / grinding) • Roof Permits • Confined Space Permits

Method Statements & Risk Assessments • These are provided by the main contractor and any sub-contractors for FMC to review and should include the following: • Method of working • Health & Safety Risk Assessment • Environmental Risk Assessment • A copy of these documents should be given to the FMC responsible engineer prior to the 654 n being completed • A copy of these documents should be available on site • Details of work scope specific PPE should be contained in the Method Statement & Associated Risk Assessment All workers should have read and understood these documents
Commencement of Work • Work can only proceed after: • Method Statements and Risk Assessments have been reviewed • All relevant permits have been completed and signed off • All personnel have been inducted • Contractor identity passes have been validated by security • Any deviation from agreed working practices MUST be agreed prior to a change occurring
Plant and Equipment • All tools plant and equipment must inspected daily, be in good working order and fit for purpose. • Where required relevant test certification must be available for inspection. • All tools and equipment must be booked in at the gate using form no. 33430. • Gate 20 for the South Estate
Mobile Elevated Work Platforms (MEWP's) • Operatives and Banks man must be fully qualified to operate and fully familiar with the equipment in use. • Equipment check sheets must be completed daily. • Hard Hat Should be worn by both the Operative and the Banks man. • Harnesses must be worn and clipped on at all times (Not Required Scissor Lifts). • Never exceed the Safe Working Load of the equipment. • Always cordon off the work area. • Take note of other activities in the working area.
Fork Lift Truck Safety Requirements • • • Speed limit to max. 6 m. p. h Drive lights front (white) Drive lights rear (red) Brake lights rear (red) Flashing reverse light (white) - activated when reverse direction is selected Rotating beacon - orange (optional) Reverse bleeper - activated when reverse direction is selected Daily pre-use check Contractors are NOT permitted to use FMC FLT’s
GEN Legal Duties of Employers • Your employer has a duty under the law to ensure, so far as is reasonably practical your health, safety and welfare at work • In particular, your employer must: • Assess the risks to your health & safety • Make arrangements for implementing the health and safety measures identified • Co-operate on health and safety with other employers sharing the same workplace
Site Rules Exit and Entry to the estate is via GATE 20 Comply to site speed limits as displayed Observe all site signage Parking only permitted in approved area Smoking is only permitted in designated smoking areas No alcohol or illegal substances to be brought onto site Use of hand held mobile phones whilst driving is prohibited Security speed camera checks will be carried out at random locations Security spot checks will be carried out at any security gate Seatbelts must be worn at all times Roadways are shared with fork lifts & tow units. Give way to Fork lifts and tow trucks • A railway operates within the estate, crossing instructions MUST be obeyed • • •
General Site Safety • Before venturing across the site, take note of the work being performed in the area. • Where possible, keep clear of all machinery – make sure machine operators are aware of your presence. • Keep away from excavations and cordoned off areas. • Never use plant or equipment you are not trained or authorised to use. • Never tamper with or remove ladders, fencing or guard rails. Immediately report all unsafe conditions and acts
PPE • Hi-vis clothing and safety footwear must be worn at all times for site works. Safety footwear and hi-vis to be worn throughout loading areas. • All other PPE in accordance with method statements/risk assessments, or any training or instruction received. • Appropriate PPE must be worn to enable each person to perform the task at hand in a safe manner.

Vehicle Safety • Requirements of the Road Traffic Act & the Highway Code are mandatory whilst on the estate (i. e. wearing of seat belts/ use of mobile phones/ speed limits, etc) • Do not use a mobile phone if you are a Banksman, operating FLT’s, MEWP’s, Construction Vehicles, or Working at Height. • Always obey the “ 2 foot” rule when near fork lift trucks. Pedestrians must stay at least 2 foot (600 mm) away from the vehicle when in use. Drivers are not to move the vehicle until the pedestrian is at least 2 foot away. • When approaching the Jetty or loading areas headlights must be switched on. The Jetty & Rail must be pre-advised of any planned visits.
Vehicle Safety (Cont’d) • There are two level crossings within the estate. These are located near gates 6 & 10. • Approach these areas with extreme caution. • STOP on the road-side of the barrier when you hear the sirens or see the lights flashing and wait for the barrier to lift before proceeding
Delivery Driver Safety • Drivers must exit their vehicle already wearing high visibility vest and safety shoes • Drivers are only allowed to be on foot in the loading and unloading area to secure and release loads to the vehicle • Drivers must remain the waiting zone unless they are opening or closing the vehicle or securing the load. • Please observe all safety signs and markings. Only use marked pedestrian routes. • Always follow the instructions given by Ford staff in their respective areas. If you fail to observe safety instructions you will be prohibited from returning to the estate.
Welfare Arrangements • There are various canteen, vending and toilet facilities across the estate. Your Ford Rep will advise you of your nearest locations and opening hours. • Please respect the toilet facilities • Smoking is only permitted in designated external areas only. • No eating or drinking on the site except in designated rest areas. • Always ensure that you are in a safe position before using your mobile phone • No sleeping on site overnight.
First Aid • Contractors are required to make their own first aid arrangements • In an emergency FMC medical can assist. Dial 5555 from any internal phone. • All accidents must be reported to your Ford Representative before you leave site • Local Hospitals • A &E • Queens Hospital - Rom Valley Way, Romford, RM 7 0 AG • King George Hospital - Barley Lane, Ilford, IG 3 8 YB • Minor Injuries Units • Upney Lane Centre - 132 Upney Lane, Barking, Essex, IG 11 9 YD
Fire Safety • If you discover a fire you must raise the alarm by getting to an internal phone and dial 3333 – or operate a break glass alarm. • Fire Extinguishers and Hose Reels are available adjacent to the Break Glass alarms. Do NOT attempt to put out the fire unless you feel competent to do so. • The use of any fire fighting equipment must be reported to plant protection on 020 2526 5227 • Fire Alarm • Stage One of the alarm is a series of intermittent signals sounded on the sirens. This will indicate the location of the incident to designated persons. This is NOT a signal to evacuate the Plant. • Stage Two of the alarm is a continuous sounding siren. On hearing this you must follow the evacuation procedure. • Your Ford contact will advise you of the fire exits and assembly points in your particular area of work.
Near Miss Reporting • Report all near misses to your supervisor, or your Ford contact. Today’s near miss may be tomorrow’s accident
Drain Marking • Purpose – Protect surface water and foul water from discharges. • Approval from the Plant Environmental Dept is needed for any discharge to drains or sewers. • Rain water only – No other discharge. • Foul water – Authorisation required. • Trade Effluent – Authorisation required. • All materials used on site must have Ford toxicology approval or be supported by material safety data sheet. • All materials must be stored in suitable containers and correctly labelled.
Spillage Or Leakage • Contain the spill or leak. • Contractors are required to provide spill kits as required. Environmental Awareness Spillage or Leaks • Contractors must have spill kits while working on site. • Any spillage or leak must be contained. • Emergency spill response is provided by on site fire department • The Ford Responsible engineer must be notified of any spillage on site.
