FOOTBALL • The United States men's national soccer team, often referred to as the USMNT, represents the United States in international soccer. It is controlled by the United States Soccer Federation and competes in CONCACAF (the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football). The team has appeared in the last seven FIFA World Cups and hosted the 1994 edition.
BASEBOLL • Major League Baseball (MLB) is a professional baseball organization that constitutes one of the four major professional sports leagues in North America. It is the oldest league of the four. Teams play in the American League (AL) and National League (NL), which operated as separate legal entities from 1901 and 1876 respectively. In 2000, the leagues merged into a single organization led by the Commissioner of Baseball.
BASKETBALL • USA Basketball is a non-profit organization and the governing body for basketball in the United States. The organization represents the United States in FIBA and the men's and women's national basketball teams in the United States Olympic Committee. Its Chairman of the Board is Jerry Colangelo and its executive director is Jim Tooley.
HOCKEY • The United States men's national ice hockey team is based in Colorado Springs, Colorado, with its U 18 and U 17 development program in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The team is controlled by USA Hockey, the governing body for amateur and Olympic ice hockey in the United States. The US team is ranked 6 th in the IIHF World Rankings.
AMERICAN FOOTBALL • American football evolved in the United States, originating from the sport of rugby football. The first game of American football was played on November 6, 1869, between two college teams, Rutgers and Princeton, under rules resembling a mix of rugby and soccer. A set of rule changes drawn up from 1880 onward by Walter Camp, the "Father of American Football, " established the snap, eleven-player teams, and the concept of downs; later rule changes legalized the forward pass, created the neutral zone, and specified the size and shape of the football.
