Update on FSN Network Spring Meeting SBC sessions n Barrier Analysis for Ag/NRM (Judiann Mc. Nulty will present, Tom updates) n SBC Core Competencies (report by Ashley Aakesson)
Update on Multisectoral Designing for Behavior Change Training Manual n Consultants hired: Linda Morales (lead) with input from Judiann Mc. Nulty and Bonnie Kittle n Looking for (a) suggested modifications to the manual (e. g. , training activities that do not work, to add); and (b) Ag/NRM BA examples. (Please respond to Linda Morales’ email about DBC modifications. ) n Hoping to have draft by June/July. Need to field program (Madagascar MYAP? ) test the modified manual and have SBCTF members review draft (divide by chapters). n May be able to do a Africa Regional To. T on the new ms-DBC in August or September.
SBC Position for MYAPs? n Pros: An SBC point person could help with building competencies and making sure SBC considerations are included in program design and implementation (like done for M&E). n Cons: May separate out SBC from technical sectors and lead to the problem that Bill Smith brought up: Having technical managers/experts “give” SBC what they want to promote rather than working collaboratively. n Some Field input (Jen Peterson, Madagascar MYAP): “I would prefer that we also advocate that communication be integrated into technical posts (health/nutrition, agriculture/livelihoods, DRR, environment, etc). . I do see a huge need for communication specialists…. I don’t think one approach excludes the other. . [but we should not] always separate the message from the messenger. ” (Should we ask for more field practitioners to comment? ? ) n Weigh in: Should we advocate for an SBC position as part of all new MYAPs? n (If so, consider writing a generic job description. )
SBC “Wiki” n Intended Content: How to build skills for each core n See example (web tour or share screen): n Decide: Would this be a useful HQ tool? Field tool? Shall we build it? If we will use it: Divide up sections – write useful FAQ, add content. Schedule separate (brief) “how to” session. n competency; where to find information products, methods, and tools related to each competency; how to resolve problems associated with each competency; Etc. https: //docs. google. com/a/fh. org/document/d/1 PEGohj. Use of the FSN Network Logo – SBCTF “Buy in” / Endorsement n The Need: To decide on which posted n Decide: What process should we use to assure n presentations, IMT, etc. , we should put the FSN Network logo on (e. g. , narrated presentations) that indicates our endorsement. buy in / endorsement by the SBCTF? What about lurkers / non-attending members? At least majority voting positively? 75%? (Example: What about the Persuasion Principles presentation recently posted? )
SBC Self-Assessment Tool n Based on SBC core competencies. n Tool emailed out yesterday, so not expecting feedback/mark-up today, but hope to get it by Spring Meeting (May 9). n Decide: Who should take the assessment? All staff doing SBC in a MYAP? People most in charge? (Problem of not having a point person. )
