ACTIONS (from wk 51/2008) – Status (14/01/2009) 1 – Tentative of cleaning using high pressure water (~80 -100 b) by VALLIER Company (ODM 15330027 9/12/08) : intervention 17 & 18 Dec. 08 RESULTS : NO IMPROVEMENTS – 1 additional plug observed (chicane) – Water coming out in the passage of the chicane – ad-hoc pumping system needed. 2 – Home made pumping device (with water level sensor) in order to cope with the closure of the experimental area over Christmas break RESULTS : No problems – no floors in the cavern during the Christmas break. 3 – Research of a specialized company via the CE Group : Action in preparation 4 – New tentative of cleaning by ourselves (LHCb Expt Area Team) : 13 January 09. Main action = Aspiration of all the residues from all the accessible holes (A, B, C, D & E points in the drawing slide 1) – C hole was particularly blocked with residues RESULTS : Better water flux inside the drain – now no necessary to pump water upstream in the passage of the chicane – Significant Improvements = roughly back to the initial situation. However, the drain remains partially blocked. Further investigations are needed by a specialized company with the CE Technical Support. LEA 28 January 2009 B. CORAJOD & D. LACARRERE 4

CURRENT STATUS (28 January 2009) 1 – GS/CE Group (E. Perez-Duenas) has found a specialized company (ORTEC). 2 – Visit to Pit 8 with 2 ORTEC specialists : Fri. 16 January 2009 3 – Quotation received (27 Jan. 09) : cost ~ 2000 EUR (diagnostic & cure) 4 – Preparation of the intervention on site (access for 2 people, PPSPS, list of tasks, VIC, lowering of equipment, …) 5 – Intervention scheduled for wk 6 or 7 (objective : before LHCb week) LEA 28 January 2009 B.
