RECENT ACTIVITIES JANUARY 24, 2013 MEETING Ralph Marcello, Executor Director of Beaches Habitat, spoke to us on the“History and Current Happenings at Beaches Habitat” Ralph is a past club member. It was good to see him. Thank You Ralph. We appreciate your coming and giving us a great presentation. NOTES FROM SECRETARY JULIANN FOR ROUND TABLE DISCUSSION Ponte Vedra – Key Club – Met with Teacher Advisor & 2 students this a. m. Still working on Charter & Petition. Hope to be chartered by March 2013. They will be focusing mostly on start-up for this year but they want to participate in 3 of our interests this year. Kiwanis One, Birdies for Charity and the Eliminate Project. Kiwanis One Day – Event – The Beaches Museum & Historic park is will to work with us for the event to be held there. Joe will provide approximately 25 -50 plants for the Beaches Historic Chapel planting. I met with Andy Morrow this morning and he is all in for us to use either the grounds or the building on April 6 th for our event. For the grounds, we need to contact the City/Town of Jax Beach parks association for a permit as it is a designated public park. For the building, it is privately owned and we can work through the Museum Staff. Their proposed completion date for the Chapel planting is March 1 though at this time, they don’t think this is realistic. They will forward the list of plants Joe Overby provides to be the Architect to be used in the design and they will communicate back to us on ‘hands-on’ for delivery planting, etc. They also welcome additional plants and planting times to be incorporated into our event and the plants can be used for the other areas of the park in coordination with their improvements and our partnering with them. The date for the chapel is premature for our event but still would be a good focus for news worthy draw to April 6 th Kiwanis 1 Day. Nancy Adams has requested to join our membership full time and we are getting her signed on. She has been attending meetings now for about a year and we are excited to have her energy. Welcome Nancy! Reminder – I am adding “Friends of Kiwanis” to our email list to keep them informed of meeting and events. This list is for anyone you might know who will provide their email address ONLY to be contacted or notified of meetings and events for Kiwanis. I would like to challenge each of you to reach out to your associates and provide JUST ONE person’s name and email contact information. Please let your associates know this is not a solicitation but just for awareness of our meetings and events. SPEAKER SIGN UP RESPONSIBILITY For Membership Meetings on 4 th Thursdays Contact Juli. The President, Wyatt, led the meeting by discussing their Animal Shelter food and toy drive to benefit the Jacksonville Animal Shelter on Beach Blvd. Wyatt will be making morning announcements and the members of the club will be making posters to hang around the school and also announce this collection project to their 7 th mod classrooms. The 7 th mod classroom that collects the most donations will win an Ice Cream Party. This collection project will be ongoing until the first week of March. If any of our Kiwanis Club members are interested in donating any items, I will be more than happy to collect and bring these items to the school before the project closes. As you can see from the attached picture, we have not gotten as much student participation in the club this year compared to past years, but our student members still manage to do a super job of getting all the students in the school to participate in their projects. See a list of items needed at http: //jaxhumane. org/how-to-help/donate. Nancy Bernard - Kiwanis co-sponsor with the tremendous help of John Bates, of Builders Club -
