Each nation in development creates the culture which can be compared to the huge computer where is created, transferred, remains and information made by people is processed. Such "computer" of the nation has the features - traditions, arts, mentality.
Each person has invisible personal space which surrounds with "cocoon" it and can change. . If you incidentally broke personal space of other person, it is accepted to apologize – even if you didn't touch it. And therefore no wonder that representatives of other cultures quite often reproach with coldness and arrogance!
For formation of the British character island position of the country was decisive. For British the feeling of remoteness from the rest of the world is characteristic.
The major role in formation of English national character was played the reformation of church which is carried out in the first half of XVI. In society there was such behavior: thrift, diligence, moderation, modesty, restraint, common sense and commitment to "golden mean".
Especially significant lines of the British mentality: At the heart of the English term "home" it is easy to make out the idea following from a geographical position of the country, remoteness from the world and isolation in the small, comfortably equipped space.
Restraint is an ability to keep calm under any circumstances ("to keep stiff upper lip"). Restraint isn't a consequence of lack of emotionality at all as it is represented to many foreigners, and aspiration to keep a comfortable situation of communication, unwillingness to confuse the interlocutor.
One of characteristic features of British – conservatism in tastes and belief, commitment to the settled order of things. At the same time in British character commitment to traditions wonderfully is combined with aspiration to changes and innovations.
Sense of humor for the Englishman – the same natural and integral way of development of the world as sight, hearing, sense of smell, taste and touch. British consider ability to laugh over itself the most important line of a mature civilization
Studying not only English, but also other foreign languages, it is important to know and understand mentality of the corresponding nation
