Howard Dean Day 1 Speaker “Less Politics, More Results” Governor Howard Dean • CNBC Contributor • Founder, Democracy for America • Chairman, Democratic National Committee, 2005 -2009 • Architect of the ‘‘ 50 -State Strategy’’ • 2004 Candidate for the Democratic Nomination for President • Governor of Vermont, 1991 -2003 Governor Howard Dean, former DNC Chairman, presidential candidate, six term Governor and physician, currently works as an Independent consultant focusing on the areas of health care, early childhood development, alternative energy and the expansion of grassroots politics around the world. Dean also serves as a CNBC contributor and is the founder of Democracy for America. Dean began his career in public service in 1982 when he transitioned from a full-time practicing physician to an elected representative in Vermont. Dean served as Governor for 12 years – the second longest serving in the state. Respected on both sides of the political aisle, Dean was chairman of the National Governors’ Association, the Democratic Governors’ Association, and the New England Governors’ Conference while he served as Governor of Vermont. Dean left office in Vermont to run for President in 2003 where he implemented innovative fundraising strategies such as use of the Internet.
Russell Matney Day Two Speaker • • • Bio Russell Matney, PMI Southwest Virginia Chapter Russell Matney, a Project Management Professional (PMP) since 2005, has 20 years’ experience at AREVA Inc. driving value-added change in areas such as nondestructive examination, software development, proposal/project/risk management, and licensing. Russell is a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt responsible for leading performance improvement projects across a variety of functional departments. From 2008 through 2011, he led the development of the project management portfolio dashboard, served as the Secretary of the Technological Risk Assessment Committee, and led AREVA’s initiative to establish an enterprise Earned Value Management System (EVMS). Russell holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Virginia, a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Virginia Tech and a Masters Certificate in Project Management from George Washington University. Abstract: “Improving Project Certainty… Lessons from the Journey” In 2009 AREVA NP Inc. (AREVA) embarked on the journey to establish an enterprise EVMS based on “Industry Best Practice” with the primary objective of establishing an “Early Warning System” to enable management to measure and monitor performance with timely information. Early in the planning phase, a significant amount of effort was expended educating senior management and project stakeholders about the function and merits of a well-designed enterprise EVMS. Flexibility, scalability and pragmatic process topped the list of stakeholders’ key requirements. Some of the more difficult implementation tasks included developing and integrating work authorization documents, change control data, and budget logs. The importance of an informed management team, trained personnel and a sound ground-level process was underscored during the system rollout. Many lessons were learned throughout the EVMS rollout. This presentation will focus on lessons including: methods and value of engaging senior management, finding allies to drive change, introducing “best practice” EVM to the masses, determining stakeholder incentives, the efficiencies of standard EVM work practices, importance of process clarity, and defining meaningful performance measures. As AREVA began rolling out the EVMS on the initial project, the focus and concern was around enterprise EVMS software selection and installation. In retrospect, and when considering future rollouts, software selection and installation should be considered subordinate to process clarity when implementing EVMS best practice and a thorough change management plan.
Walt Lipke Day 3 Speaker ABSTRACT OF PRESENTATION Earned Schedule - Ten Years After Earned Schedule (ES), an extension to Earned Value Management, began with The Measurable News publication of “Schedule Is Different, ” in March 2003. From the time of the public’s first view of ES, its propagation and uptake around the world has been extraordinary. The methods derived from the ES measure provide considerable capability to project managers for analysis of schedule performance. The presentation will cover the 10 years of Earned Schedule describing its capabilities and challenges, progressing through the significant extensions, to present status. BIOGRAPHY OF PRESENTER Walt Lipke, PMI Oklahoma City Chapter Phone: (405) 364 -1594 Email: waltlipke@cox. net Walt Lipke retired in 2005 as deputy chief of the Software Division at Tinker Air Force Base. He has over 35 years of experience in the development, maintenance, and management of software for automated testing of avionics. During his tenure, the division achieved several software process improvement milestones, including the coveted SEI/IEEE award for Software Process Achievement. Mr. Lipke has published several articles and presented at conferences, internationally, on the benefits of software process improvement and the application of earned value management and statistical methods to software projects. He is the creator of the technique Earned Schedule, which extracts schedule information from earned value data. Mr. Lipke is a graduate of the USA Do. D course for Program Managers. He is a professional engineer with a master’s degree in physics, and is a member of the physics honor society, Sigma Pi Sigma ( ). Lipke achieved distinguished academic honors with the selection to Phi Kappa Phi ( ). During 2007 Mr. Lipke received the PMI Metrics Specific Interest Group Scholar Award. Also in 2007, he received the PMI Eric Jenett Award for Project Management Excellence for his leadership role and contribution to project management resulting from his creation of the Earned Schedule method. Mr. Lipke was selected for the 2010 Who’s Who in the World.

Waldorf Astoria Naples • Tuesday, May 28, 1 -5 PM Leadership in project management requires the ability to adapt and survive in the current economic circumstances. An added challenge is the fiscal climate in the United States, which has resulted in significant cuts to spending across all Government agencies. This 4 -hour course will discuss the trials and tribulations of defying the confrontational “battleground approach” to EVMS surveillance with methods that work in a cost-effective and efficient way. We will explore real-world (redacted) examples of Integrated Program Management Report (IPMR) submittals that provide leading indicators and insights into project management process and EVMS health. Attendees will leave with practical templates, tips, and tricks for surveillance behaviors, planning, execution, and monitoring and controlling. About Lisa Wolf, PMP, EVP Lisa Wolf is the Earned Value Management (EVM) Focal Point for Booz Allen Hamilton. In this role, Lisa is responsible for ensuring the proper deployment of the DCMA-validated Earned Value Management System (EVMS) through training, proposal support, Integrated Baseline Review (IBRs), Internal Surveillance Reviews (ISRs), and Joint Surveillance Reviews (JSRs). Lisa’s wide range of diverse EVM experience as a practitioner has been in RDT&E, Production, Deployment, Software Development, and IT support services projects of varying contract sizes and types with myriad clients. Lisa is a frequent speaker and trainer of Earned Value Project Management (EVPM) topics, including courses and presentations in Alexandria, Egypt, Melbourne and Sydney, Australia, and throughout the United States. She has served as a guest lecturer for graduate students at Bowie State University in Maryland, as well as a course developer and leader for the American Management Association. Lisa has been certified by the Association for Advancement of Cost Engineering International (AACEI) as an Earned Value Professional (EVP) and by the PMI as a Project Management Professional (PMP).
