The vision • Develop a pan-European competence framework for children and young people, focusing on: Diet (food and drink) Active lifestyles (physical activity) Energy balance • Bring diet and activity together. • Provide a progressive approach learning. • Produce a consistent, up-to-date and accurate framework for all those involved in education. © BRITISH NUTRITION FOUNDATION 2012
Development • Establish advisory groups comprising experts from across Europe. • Seek advice from organisations and individuals throughout Europe, including young people. • Use the UK Food Standards Agency competence framework. © BRITISH NUTRITION FOUNDATION 2012

The Framework content • represents fundamental knowledge and behaviours around the 3 topic areas; • progressive and cumulative from one phase to the next; • covers ages of 5 to 16+ years; • can be used in different countries, allowing for regional and cultural differences; • aims to help young people to develop the skills and knowledge to make and implement healthy food and lifestyle choices. © BRITISH NUTRITION FOUNDATION 2012
How can the Framework be used? The Framework can be used as: • an audit tool in schools to help plan lessons; • support for curriculum development; • a focus for out of school activities; • a vehicle to bring together diet and activity; • a guide for those developing resources for young people, e. g. publishers, charities, industry. © BRITISH NUTRITION FOUNDATION 2012
