On many packeges of pills you can see Braille. It is a tactile writing system used by blind and the visually impaired people.
Near the entrance of some chemist’s shops you can find a bell, in which disabled people ring, when they want to buy something, but can not climb the stairs or just enter the shop.
Near the entrance of many public institutions, like hospitals, chemist’s shops, police departments and different shops you can also find wheelchair ramps (it is a inclined plane, installed in addition to or instead of stairs), which wheelcairbounded people use to enter the building, which has stairs.
Near the roads, pedestrian paths and entrances of the buildings there are organised reest areas, which are equipped with benches, places for wheelchairs, toilets and canopys.
In the buildings there are handrails and if theese buildings are high-rise, they have elevators.
In public transport there are seats for disabled people and places for parking wheelchairs. There also exist some discounts for payment of driveway.
There also exist some rules, that stipulate sizes and characteristic of many objects and some other necessities: Ø The width of all door and open apertures
Ø The width of the parking area
ØThe width of wheelchair ramps must be about 1 m an slope must be 8% 1 m 8%
ØCovering of the pedestrian paths mus be solod or improved
Ø Requirements for indoor and outdoor lightning
Ø Minimal distance from parking lots to open residential buildings Ø The height of curbs at the intersection with the roadway Ø The longitudinal slope of the path must be no more 5% Ø Distance to the entrances of the buildings The places of service and permanent location of people with limited mobility should be located, as far, as possible, on the ground floor and at the most minimal distances to emergency exits
The government of my town, Nikolaev, also does all possible things to make the lives of disabled people easier:
