Erasmus+: What is it? Erasmus+ is the European Union programme for education, training, youth and sport. It has different Keys actions (activities and projects) Key Action 1: Mobility Youth Exchanges EVS (European Volunteering Service) Training and Networking events
Key Action 1: Mobility Youth Exchanges are educational opportunities offered by the European Commission for young people to travel and enjoy intercultural experiences with people from all over Europe. Youth exchanges allow groups of young people from different countries to meet, live together and work on shared projects for short periods. Youth exchanges take place outside the school environment. On a youth exchange, you can expect to participate in activities such as workshops, exercises, debates, role-plays, outdoor activities and more. Participants' learning experiences are recognised through a Youthpass. Each youth exchange has a theme around which all the activities of the exchange are organized, and it is established well in advance: it can be sport, sustainability, art, environment, music, cinema, cultural or culinary traditions, economy and even religion.
Duration, Conditions and Costs Youth exchanges last between 5 and 21 days. This excludes travelling time. Youth exchanges are open to people between the ages of 13 and 30. To be a group leader in a youth exchange, you must be at least 18 years-old. Youth exchanges are managed by youth organizations, informal groups of young people or other organizations. The EU grant supports travel as well as practical and activity-related costs necessary for the exchange. It provides free board and lodging and travel costs to volunteers. • Budget rules + distance calculator.
My experience Bydgoszcz, Poland, 2009 Amarante, Portugal, 2011 Chernivtsi, Çankırı, Ukraine, 2014 Turkey, 2014.
Why I participated? Because I was curious Because I wanted to try new experiences I wanted to accept new challenges I was eager to travel and see the world but I didn’t have a job to pay for my travels nor the face to ask money from my family.
