A regatta is a rowing competition in the open water. In England it has a long and interesting tradition.

The Cambridge Boat of 1829 and Cambridge rowed on the Thames near the town of Henley.
1907 From the very beginning it attracted crowds of fans and supporters.
On those days traffic on the river stops and the banks are crowded with spectators wearing their colours – dark blue for Oxford and light blue for Cambridge.

Punting
A punt is a flat-bottomed boat with a square-cut bow, designed for use in small rivers or other shallow water.
Poling along the river looks effortless and easy;
a relaxing way to enjoy a quiet summer afternoon.
However, steering a punt is neither easy nor effortless.
Steering from the rear of a punt takes skill and coordination.
The pole can get stuck in the mud of the river bottom.
Your first few tries to direct a punt will give some entertainment for onlookers on the banks.
