England is a country that is part of the United Kingdom. England is the largest and the richest country of Great Britain. The capital of England is London but there are other large industrial cities, such as Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester and other famous and interesting cities. The official language is English. The population of the country is about 52 million people.

Geographical position It is bordered by two fellow countries of the United Kingdom—to the north by Scotland to the west by Wales. England is closer to the European Continent than any other part of mainland Britain.

Climate England has a temperate maritime climate meaning that it is mild with temperatures not much lower than 0 °C in winter and not much higher than 32 °C in summer. The coldest months are January and February, the latter particularly on the English coast, while July is normally the warmest month.
