Why Gendered MDGs? The dynamics of gender relations and the attendant inequality between women and men affects development outcomes and goals (Cedaw Watch, Philippines, 2009); Gender cuts across on all the MDGs and should be mainstreamed in the MDG monitoring framework; Gender is only explicit in MDG 3: Promoting Gender Equality and Empower Women and MDG 5: Improve Maternal Health; There is a clamor from some stakeholders in Davao Region, such as the civil society, for a gender responsive MDG monitoring at the local level. 3 International Conference on Millennium Development Goals ERTuringan/ October 20, 2011 NATIONAL STATISTICAL COORDINATION BOARD

Mechanisms for Engendering the MDGs Coordination Mechanisms on Gender Statistics at the Local Level: 1. Regional Development Council XI – Regional GAD Coordinating Committee where the NSCB Regional Division XI sits as Co. Chair; 2. Regional Statistical Coordination Committee XI – TWG on Gender Statistics whose membership consists of NEDA, NSCB and other agencies/local government units; - Aims to resolve statistical issues and to address emerging concerns on gender statistics to be able to provide relevant reliable and timely data for planning and programming purposes concerning women; 3. Conduct of the annual Women Summit in Davao City as provided by the Davao City Women Code spearheaded by the City Government in cooperation with NSCB and other regional agencies and LGUs; 10. The Philippine GAD Budget policy which authorizes government agencies, offices, bureaus, state universities and colleges, government owned and controlled corporations, and local government units to utilize at least 5% of their budget for GAD related activities; 11. Annual Mindanao Statistics Congress as coordinated by the NSCB in partnership with the Philippine Statistical Association, National Statististics Office, other regional statistical offices, local government units. Next Steps: 1. To respond to the demand from the local civil society and other stakeholders in the Davo Region, engendering the Regional MDG Watch, a monitoring info sheet produced regularly by the NSCB Regional Division, is proposed; it is suggested that the National Economic and Development Authority Regional MDG Report should also consider adding the gender dimension in their reports; 2. Davao Region may not have difficulty in adopting the engendered MDG Watch, this situation may not be the same for other regions.
