Great Britain today is a constitutional monarchy and the head of the monarchy is the Queen of great Britain and Northern Ireland -Elizabeth II.
Her Majesty the Queen of England was born in London in 1926. In the absence of the contenders for the throne in the male line, Elizabeth at the age of 11 became the heir to the throne.
Elizabeth received a good education at home. She studied school subjects: economy, jurisprudence, constitutional law. Engaged in horse riding, dancing, court etiquette.
In the second world war, the future Queen of England got the right driver of the ambulance. By the end of the war she transported sick and wounded soldiers.
Princess Elizabeth became Queen in 1952 after the death of his father. The coronation ceremony was first televised from Westminster Abbey.
The main residence of the Royal family is Buckingham Palace. It was built in 1702. The residence is guarded by the Royal guard. Ceremonial changing of the guard the Palace guardsthe most famous ceremony in London.
Part of the residence is open for tourists.
Each year the country celebrated the official birthday of the English monarch. Specially trained part of the Royal guard held a solemn March.
Queen Elizabeth 2 is the head of state in sixteen States and is the head of the Commonwealth fifty-three countries.
Queen of the United Kingdom has the following powers: -- The Queen is head of state and represents it in external relations -- Queen of great Britain is the Supreme commander of the armed forces, she declares war or makes peace. -- The Queen is the head of the Executive authority appoints and dismisses Ministers and all civil servants who are "in the service of Her Majesty". -- The Queen is the head of the judiciary. -- The Queen appoints or removes the Prime Ministers and Ministers.
The British anthem is called «God save the Queen»
