Elizabeth I (1533 -1603)

Basic information. Ø Ø Ø Ø Elizabeth I (1533 -1603) Elizabeth became the Queen in 1558. She never married. During her reign England became very important in European politics, the Spanish Armada was defeated, arts and theatre developed, and the country became powerful. Very early Elizabeth I started to show her abilities. At the age of ten, she was good at Greek, Italian and French. Queen was 25 when she was crowned. On 17 of November 1558 she was the Queen of England Queen of Ireland.

That has made for the country. In December 1553 the girl was sent to a residence at Hatfield House, a small palace near London. Ø On the 25 th of January Elizabeth opened the first Parliament. Ø On the 24 th of March she died in the palace of Richmond and was buried. Ø Spanish Armada. Ø In July 1588 the Spanish Armada arrived in the Channel. The English guns could shoot farther. After the battle less than half of the proud Armada came back to its home ports. Some people said the Spanish Armada was defeated more by bad weather than by English guns. Arts and theatre. Ø Elizabeth was a good musician herself. English music, especially church music , was then among the best in Europe. William Shakespeare’s plays were written in the years of Elizabeth I reign. Explorers. The first explorer was Francis Drake, who in 1577 started for South America. He explored the coast of California and made his way across the Pacific and Indian oceans, round Africa, and returned to England in 1580.

Family. Ø Elizabeth was Henry’s the VIII and Anne Boleyn’s daughter

Ø On the 24 th of March she died in the palace of Richmond and was buried in Westminster Abbey.
