¿En inglés o en español? In English you can say: I am working right now or I am working tomorrow *** In Spanish you cannot do this. The progressive in Spanish is ONLY used to describe an action that is in process at the moment we are talking (ahora mismo), or used to talk about what was happening when telling a story (estar in the imperfect tense). *** In Spanish we can use the expression IR + A + Infinitive to refer to the near future (tomorrow). Estoy trabajando ahora mismo. Estaba trabajando ayer cuando. . . Voy a trabajar mañana. 2

El Presente Progresivo In English you would never say: “He walking. ” or “She working. ” You say: He’s walking. or He is walking. She’s working. or She is working. We do the same in Spanish: Never leave out the verb ESTAR + verb stem -ando or -iendo 3

To form the present progressive in Spanish: ESTAR + verb stem + -ando (ar verbs) or -iendo (er/ir verbs) (bailar) Yo estoy bailando (comer) Ella está comiendo (caminar) Tú estás caminando (escribir) Ellos están escribiendo (escuchar) Nosotros estamos escuchando Remember, the stem of the verb is what is left when you take off the –ar, -er, -ir verb ending.
