What do you mean saying "the environment"? Anna Krotova 7 a The word "environment" means simply what is around us. The air we breath, the land on which we stand walk, the water we drink are all part of the environment. Ecology is the science of how living things are related to their environment. The word "ecology" came from the Greek which means "home". This idea of "home" includes the whole our planet. We must protect our planet from littering, polluting and destruction of natural resources.
Our planet is under threat
Water pollution Alla Makarova 7 V I'd like to tell you about Water Pollution. Nowadays we have a big problem with water pollution on our planet. And almost everytime human activities lead to many troubles of that kind. We have dirty rivers and canals, radioactive waste, damping industrial waste, because very often people don't take it seriously and aren't responsible for their job. There are many environmental disasters because oil tankers are spilling thick black oil into our oceans. As a result: 1) oceans, seas, rivers and lakes are polluted; 2) sea life is threatened with extinction; 3) water is not safe to drink or swim in; 4) it can cause stomach diseases. We must control the purity of water, organize rational fishing and prevent oil pollution. Governments should fine factories which pollute seas and rivers.
Water pollution Fuad Ahmedov 7 b There`s no ocean or sea which is not used as a dump. The Pacific Ocean has suffered from nuclear pollution because the French Government tests nuclear weapons there. Many seas are used for dumping industrial and nuclear waste. Britain dumps 250. 000 tons of waste straight into the North Sea. This poisons and kills fish and sea animals. "Nuclearpoisoned" fish can be eaten by people. Many rivers and lakes are poisoned too. Fish and reptilies can`t live in them. There`s not enough oxygen in the water. In such places all the birds leave their habitats. It happens so because factories poison the water.
Air pollution Veselova Katya 7 A People pollute air for different ways. There a lot of cars, buses, trucks, which pollute our atmosphere with exhaust fumes. Smoke and fumes from factories make holes in the ozone layer thereby the climate. And also there acid rains caused by factories and cars releasing poisonous chemicals into the air. All these pollutings can cause serious breathing problems and cancer. People must stop this pollution. They can remove the harmful industrial enterprises outside the city limits. It's necessary to encourage industries to use cleaner methods of production and people must do it. Furtheremore freight traffic should be bunned in the historical centre of the city. I think cars should run on unleaded petrol or people might use bicycles insteard of cars because it's very good for atmosphere and it's great opportunity to stay healthy.
Air pollution Medvedeva 7 b Air pollution is another important issue. Cars and factories in and around our cities are giving off dangerous fumes. In the past few years, more and more people than ever before have developed allergies and breathing problems. If we don't do something now, our cities will become impossible to live in.
Nuclear pollution - pollution of the territory and objects on it are radioactive substances. Reasons: -man-made disaster; -nucleare explosian; -discharge of nuclear substances. Effects off: -radiation sickness Gagarina Lida 7 b
Destruction of the rainforests. Influence on environment Anastasiya Yuhno 7 b. Process of destruction of woods results as to local, and to global geographical and climatic changes. Influence on atmosphere. Cutting down of woods promotes global warming and often is called as one of the main reasons of strengthening of greenhouse effect. During the life trees and other plants withdraw carbonic gas from atmosphere of the Earth in the course of photosynthesis. Decaying and burning wood throws out the saved up carbon back in atmosphere. For avoidance of it wood should be processed in durable products, and woods to be put anew. Hydrological influence. Cutting down of woods also influences a water cycle. Trees through roots eat underground waters, and water rises to their leaves and evaporates. Except a moisture in atmosphere, Cutting down of woods negatively influences underground waters, reducing ability of district to detain deposits. Influence on soil. Cutting down of woods reduces adhesion of soil that can lead to floodings and landslips.
Destruction of wild life Mityaeva Sofia 7 b Wildlife includes all non-domesticated plants, animals and other organisms. Domesticating wild plant and animal species for human benefit has occurred many times all over the planet, and has a major impact on the environment, both positive and negative. Destruction of wildlife does not always lead to an extinction of the species, however, the dramatic loss of entire species across Earth dominates any review of wildlife destruction as extinction is the level of damage to a wild population from which there is no return. The four most general reasons that lead to destruction of wildlife include overkill, habitat destruction and fragmentation, impact of introduced species and chains of extinction.
Together we can save our planet What can be done to improve the environment? If we tried, we could all make the world a better place. Here are some ideas. First, if we make gardens, they would become a home for different species of insects, birds and animals. Second, if we used natural resourses carefully we would use them for a long time. Third, if we protected wild animals, they wouldn't become enxtinct. Besides the bird wouldn't have left the habitats, if people hadn't cut down the trees. Futhermore, if people recycled they would save natiral resources. If we worked together, we could make the world a better place! Vasileva Lera & Varentsova Valentine
Special organizations People can`t stay indifferent to these problems. They must take care of Earth. There a lot of special organizations, which try to save our nature. Some of them are: • The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to animals(The RSPCA) • The World Wildlife Fund(WWF) • Greenpeace • World Charter for Nature(WCN) • International Union for Conservation of Nature(IUCN) Reznikova Maria 7 V
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to animals(The RSPCA) - was founded in 1824. Woman-Heather Robertson was the founder of the organisation. The RSPCA tries to protect animals from bad use. It operates big nation campaigns aimed at lost pets, circus animals. However, centres, hospitals RSPCA only apply in England Wales. So, the organisation is doing everything possibly to protect animals around the world! Masha Tiktinskaya 7 v.
The World Wildlife Fund(WWF) The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) is an international non-governmental organization working on issues regarding the conservation, research and restoration of the environment, formerly named the World Wildlife Fund, which remains its official name in Canada, United States and the United Kingdom. It is the world's largest independent conservation organization with over 5 million supporters worldwide, working in more than 100 countries, supporting around 1, 300[4] conservation and environmental projects. Murad 7 A WWF is a foundation. The group says its mission is "to halt and reverse the destruction of our environment".
Greenpeace is an international nongovernmental organization dedicated to preserving endangered species of animals, preventing environmental abuses and taking care of wildlife. Greenpeace was founded in 1971 in Vancover, Canada. It brought together people concerned with the terrible abuses to the enviroment. Greenpeace also campaigns : - to stop all nuclear weapons tests -to stop acid rain and protect the atmosphere - to reduce the trade in endangered specias products Today it is a global organization with national offices in 27 countries, one of them is in Russia (since 1992).
