Dreamhouse What is architecture, and what do architects do?
Scale Model or Drawing • Used to represent an object that is too large or too small to be drawn or built at actual sizes • This airplane is a 1: 5 scale , one foot on the model is 5 feet on the real thing.
Architects use scale models… • to show what something will look like before it is built.
For our you can pick you scale: for example if: 1 cm = 2 feet (1 centimeter represents 2 feet) For example: A door usually measures about 7 feet tall by 3 feet wide. For our model we divide each of these by 2 and therefore a door would be 3. 5 cm tall and 1. 5 cm wide.
Example 2: Determine the Scale The height of a wall in your dreamhouse is supposed to be 8 feet. How tall would the scale model be if 1 cm = 2 feet? Answer: 8 ÷ 2 = 4 cm
