Introduction SIGHTSEEING PLACES OF RELIGIOUS INTEREST ECOTOURISM and TREKKING The sprawling city Almaty Borovoye resort Astana is an aspiration of Kazakhstan Conclusion
The diverse landscapes, rich cultural and historical traditions and wildlife variety that characterize the vast territory of Kazakhstan attract the attention of tourists. Kazakhstan has great potential for developing almost every type of tourism, from cultural, educational, ecological, sports and adventure tourism to special interest trips for science, religion, and ornithology. At present, tourism is an important economic sector, and the government is taking all necessary steps for its development.
Unique culture of Kazakhstan is a reason to travel to Kazakhstan for many tourists. Almost in every corner of the republic, a visitor, interested in real life of Kazakh people - their traditions, rituals, art and culture, will find many things of interest. These include museum complexes, ethno villages, depicting traditional lifestyle of Kazakh people, historical sites of medieval cities and many others.
Ancient history, the Middle Ages and modern times are all reflected in the Republic's material heritage. Burial mounds in Central Kazakhstan (at Begazy, Tegiz-Zhol, Kent and many other locations) date back to the Stone and Bronze Ages. Of comparable vintage are the Sak barrows and petroglyphs in Semirechiye and the Valley of the Tsars in Berel (East Kazakhstan). There are many other fascinating remains from this ancient past. There also numerous places of interest associated with the Silk Road, mostly in the south, and especially in the valleys of the Chu, Talas and Syr-Darya rivers.
Many of the places have some religious interest or importance, mainly of a Muslim character. However, there also a number places of significance to Christians, both Orthodox and Catholic, to Buddhists, and to adherents of other religions. The places of most interest to Muslims are likely to be the mausoleums of Khodja Akhmed Yasavi, Karakhan, and Aisha-Bibi in South Kazakhstan, Ulytau district in Central Kazakhstan, and the numerous underground mosques of Mangystau oblast.
The main ecotourism locations in Central Kazakhstan are the natural oases at Karkaraly, Kent, Bugyly, Kyzylarai and Ulytau. If your taste is for rather more active and goal-oriented communing with nature, you might like to join one of the specialised ecological tours that are growing in popularity. These tours can be devoted to bird watching and/or ringing, which is popular in Aksu-Zhabagly and Korgalzhyn nature reserves; or can be even narrower in scope, focussing possibly on a single animal such as the snow leopard (Uncia uncia; Katon-Karagai national park is a good place to see them) or the Semirechinsk salamander.
Mountainous areas, most of which are of course perfectly suited to ecotourism, are equally popular among trekkers. The Tien Shan, the Altai, the Kazakh Melkosopochnik and the Mangystau mountains all offer excellent trekking opportunities, but the most popular location is the northern Tien Shan, especially the Zailyiskii Alatau and the Kunghei Alatoo, where hikes are of various levels of difficulty from category I to V. There are more than 100 mountain passes in the area, varying in the degree of challenge they present from noncategorized to level 3 B. These treks usually begin in Almaty.
Big Almaty Lake is one of the most popular destinations of townspeople in the weekends. People are attracted here by beautiful nature, fresh mountain air, the forest, and, of course, the lake itself. One of the most picturesque lakes in Trans-Ili Alatau lies in a hollow, on all sides surrounded by mountain peaks, covered with Tien Shan spruce, aspen and juniper. Like most mountain lakes, it was formed about 2000 years ago due to an ancient glacier, which is retreating left a moraine, further filled in with the melt water. Big Almaty Lake is interesting in all seasons. Even in winter, when its water surface is covered with ice and snow, it delights with its spaciousness and mystery. After the lake you will head to Tuyuk-Su glacier, passing by the Institute of High Energy of the Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan, or the Space Station, as it called by townspeople. This is the highest station in Europe and Asia to study cosmic rays, various celestial bodies, including the surface of the Earth from artificial satellite.
Full day guided tour to Burabai National park (Borovoe), which occupies 85000 hectares of northeastern part of Kokshetau elevation. On a way to the resort area which is in 270 km from Astana, the professional guide will give you an introduction to history of this region. On arrival you will visit the Khan’s pass and see "Burabay" mountain. On Abylaykhan Valley you will feast your eyes upon “Ush-kyz”, “Ok-Zhetpes”, “Zhumbaktas” rocks and “Kokshetau” mountain, each having the surprising legends reflecting history and identity of the Kazakh people. During the tour you will have lunch in a local cafe and 30 minute free time to walk in the wood. Further you wil have an easy hiking on “Bolektau” mountain, on the top of which the tremendous view of the “Borovoe” lake and its surroundings opens.
Steppe flower Astana was founded on the right side of Ishim river, where the tour begins. Constitution Square, Museum of the First President, Congress Hall will be starting points of excursion. You will walk along the riverside of Ishim with its specific romantic atmosphere and see the city in dynamics, and how it is developing. After the lunch in one of the numerous restaurants of the capital, you will visit “Millennium Axis” on the left side of the river, where you will see significant architectural constructions: Round Square, shopping and entertainment center "Khan Shatyr", Main Square. And afterwards you will go up to the observation deck of “Astana-Baiterek” monument to admire the magnificent panorama of the Kazakhstan
