doc. : IEEE 802. 11 -14/0346 r 0 March 2014 Achievements as Vice Chair • The success and general smooth running of the WG in recent years is a team result. I am proud to be part of that team under the leadership of Bruce Kraemer. I also recognize the essential contributions of Jon Rosdahl and Stephen Mc. Cann to the team. • Specifically, I created automated systems for membership (attendance and voting), balloting and comment resolution in order to reduce process delays and provide predictable outcomes. – The success of this work is reflected in the fact that nobody outside the officers cares about it! • Maintained and simplified the 802. 11 website. • Worked closely with IEEE-SA staff on developing their tools, recently collaborating on next generation publishing system. doc. : IEEE 802. 11 -14/0346 r 0 March 2014 Vision for the future • “More of the same” / “If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it” – The operation of WG 11 is currently pretty smooth. Looking for incremental improvements. • Want to encourage WG 11 activities to define clear goals and effective processes. Reduce rules. Formality restricted to an appropriate level. • Goals: – Address market needs – driven by marketing input – Limit the scope of what we authorize so it directly addresses these needs • Processes: – We should continually challenge the need for rules. We should only keep rules that work for us. – Commit to being responsive to the members and communicate executive decisions More administration can be automated – reducing error and delay • I would like to see if it’s possible for the WG to better explain itself to the outside world, by maintaining presentation material addressed at various key audiences, and to make the job of preparing and delivery such material a team one.
