IP service is available if this bit set to 1. • …. • This service type is used to indicate what kind of service is available in the network. • For example, if the AP’s beacon message indicates that the WLAN network support printing service. The STA OS’s connection manager can indicate the supporting of printing service. • The AP can learn and cache the supported service type from STA’s service query. Nov. 2013 doc. : IEEE 11 -13/1091 r 3 Extension for Service Discovery • Service discovery protocol – Define new Service discovery protocol over GAS • Similar with ANQP, query/response protocol • May support broadcast/multicast? • STA can use this protocol to query service before association. – Example: • STA ask: what is the IP address of the printer in this WLAN network? • AP translate this query to up-layer protocol and query the WLAN network. (for example, Bonjour) • The AP get response from the service provider (e. g. printer). • The AP send the query response to the STA, including the printer type and other parameters of the printer. • The AP can cache and set the service type field in the beacon message.
