Dnipropetrovsk was founded in 1776 year by Prince Grigory Potemkin by order of Catherine II and named Ekaterinoslav (called so in the 1776 -1926 biennium). In 1918 the town was named in honor of Sicheslav Cossack Sich. From 1926 Dnepropetrovsk. Today it's the fourth most populous city in the Ukraine (1 001 450 people). National Mining University was founded in 1899 year in Ekaterinoslav (Dnipropetrovsk today).
