District of Columbia Courts COLLECTIONS PROGRAM
District of Columbia Courts General jurisdiction for the District of Columbia Reports directly to Congress but serves the citizens of the District of Columbia (DC) Courts are comprised of three entities (Court of Appeals, Superior Court, and Court System) Appropriations are received in five parts (Court of Appeals, Superior Court, Court System, Defender Services, and Capital Projects) 1, 200 FTE’s and 120+ Judges Processes more than 150 K cases each year All fines and fees collected may not supplement appropriations and are directly assigned to the Crime Victims Fund Governed by a committee of Judges and Executives
Challenges… Multiple systems Lack of established guidelines Unaware of projected shortfall Uncertainty about unified approach to collections Centralized finance area Lack of awareness of the impact that collections has on Crime Victims Inadequate software Insufficient banking services

Implemented one Case Management System of record Presentations to upper management to increase understanding Revitalized the collections process court wide Implemented new accounting software Acquired innovative banking services Additional methods of payment Additional training of the court community Enhanced internal controls Reporting to all parties in the court community
