Title: 3 -day Training of Community Leaders Delhi Govt. has been encouraging the community to actively participate in the Planning and management of various developmental activities in general and educational activities in particular. Deptt. of Education of NCT Delhi has through SSA interventions, involved the community in enrolment drives, awareness campaigns, improving maintenance of school infrastructure and capacity building of In-Service Teachers. Thus to sensitize, motivate and make the community leaders more aware about the various interventions being done to provide quality elementary education, there is need to orient or train the community leaders. Title: Ganit mein Khel ya Khel mein Ganit Coordinator: Dr. Alka Kalra Project initiated in 2010 -11 to be completed in 2011 -12 Status: Some material has been collected and more will be developed involving ETE trainees under the following titles: Number patterns; Mathematical Games; Riddles and Puzzles; Fun with Paper; Creativity; Magic Squares; Short Cuts; Ancient Hindu Mathematics; Geometrical Patterns; Question Bank Material will be identified separately for primary and upper primary classes. A 3 - day workshop of Maths faculty of all DIETs will be organised. Some school teachers will also be involved in the exercise. The material will be tried out in five schools in District New Delhi. After language editing revised material will be published for use of primary teachers under the jurisdiction of DIET R K Puram and Teacher trainees of all DIETs in Delhi. This source book will also encourage students for self-study. Work will be completed in 2011 -12 Budget: Rs. 1, 000
Development of Mathematics Kit Coordinator: Dr. Alka Kalra Project initiated: 2010 -11 There is lot of scope to include many more Teaching - Learning materials in Maths Kit available with NCERT to make Teaching – Learning of Maths activity based, interesting and cognizable. Text books have been analyzed for identification of difficult concepts and exploration of possibility of teaching - learning material. Some TLM has been developed. Material available with agencies working in the area is being considered for inclusion in the kit. Kit will be developed by involving trainees and working teachers. It will be tried out in say 10 schools. Material will be finalized along with the User manual. Work will be completed in 2011 -12. Proposed Budget: Rs. 25, 000
Compilation of Stories with Moral Values Coordinators: Dr. Alka Kalra and Dr. Sharda Kumari Project initiated in 2010 -11 A story leading to a message promotes the feeling of responsibility, loyalty, serving others and other moral values. Such messages can easily be understood by listening exemplar life instances. A compilation of such stories and messages will serve as a source book for trainees to impart human values in their students when they become a teacher. The institute is therefore compiling such stories, which will be published for dissemination to all trainees of DIET R K Puram, all schools under the jurisdiction of DIET R K Puram, 5 copies each to other DIETs and Private ETE institutes. Several stories have been collected from Magazines and News papers. Selection of stories for inclusion in the Compilation is in process. Due care will be taken for ‘Copy Right’ issue. It will be published in 1000 copies by December 2011. Proposed Budget: Rs. 60, 000
Title: Compilation of Nursery Rhymes Coordinators: Dr. Alka Kalra, Dr. Sharda Kumari, Dr. Ranjana Singh Rationale: ‘Machli jal ki hai rani, jeevan uska hai pani’ ‘Jack and Jill went up the hill, to fetch a pail of water’ Lines tingle the heart and mind of each and every child at the age when they want and ought to know the world from their own perspective. Rhymes provide them with a wide horizon to think, imagine and understand the things around them. They also help in enhancing their language proficiency. Keeping in view the importance of nursery rhymes, teachers were motivated to develop nursery rhymes during INSET programmes organized by DIET. They developed good quality nursery rhymes. Field testing was done in the Nursery school at Pandara Road Non formal centres run by Katha at Sarvodaya Enclave. Some other popular rhymes will also be included. It is proposed to compile these rhymes so that these can reach many schools and geographical areas. Initially 1000 copies will be got printed for dissemination to NDMC school teachers and ETE trainees. Copies will be sent to other DIETs also. Title: Development of Video Programmes Rationale: Video is a powerful tool. Video through its effective utilization, can inform, educate, enrich and even empower its target, the prime reason being the stimulation of both auditory and visual senses. However, video as a medium still largely remains untapped to its full potential in the field of education. This proposal attempts to unfold to students and teachers such aspects, characteristics and viewpoints relating to teaching and learning that otherwise and in normal situations may not be feasible to dwell upon effectively. The medium of video shall be utilized such that through it the teaching learning experience touches new realms and it becomes not only interactive and interesting, but also at the same times serves as a useful tool for teachers as a support and overcomes the limitations during a classroom situation. Title: Library Automation DIET proposes to do the Automation of DIET Library. The library catalogue or index to the collection forms the base for most of the library activities such as acquisition, reference, bibliographic service, inter-library loan etc. The users of library card catalogue will appreciate how fast the retrieval is, search and printing in automated environment. If the same system is available in network environment, users can have simultaneous access to the same database. From the library staff point of view the cumbersome job of printing the cards and their subsequent filing gets eliminated. Also, it conserves space and saves stationary. Since we have about 1200 Books in our Library, Librarian will do the retro conversion / data entry and Bar coding. Agency people will train him to work on Lim. Sys and do the data entry job.
