Dialogue 1: ※ Checking in: Agent: Hello, where are you flying today? Passenger: I am flying to San Francisco. Agent: May I please see your passport? Passenger: Here you are. Agent: Will you be checking any luggage? Passenger: Yes, I have two suitcases. Agent: Do you have any carry-ons? Passenger: Yes, my brief case and my laptop bag. Agent: Do you want a window seat or an aisle seat? Passenger: I would like a window seat. Agent: Here is your boarding pass and your gate is A 13. Have a pleasant flight.
Arriving- Customs: Customs Agent: May I see your passport please? Passenger: Here you are. Customs Agent: How long are you staying in America? Passenger: Two weeks. Customs Agent: What is the purpose of your visit? Passenger: I am here sightseeing. Customs Agent: Here you are. Welcome to America. Passenger: Thank you. ※ Airport Dialogues – Security Guard: Hello, do you have anything metal on you? Any change in your wallet, watches, jewellery? Passenger: No. Security Guard: Do you have any liquids or gels? Passenger: I have this water bottle. Security Guard: Is it less than 100 millilitres? Passenger: No, it is 500. Security Guard: I’m sorry you will have to throw it away. Passenger: Oh, alright. Security Guard: Please place your jacket and carry-on in the tray and proceed through the metal detector.
Conversation at the airport between 3 people During this lesson you will be learning a brief conversation between the person at the checking in desk and Mrs Jones who are checking in. Airport conversation between 3 people Checking in desk: Welcome. Please can I see your tickets? Mr Mrs Jones: Yes here you are. Checking in desk: Is it just you two traveling or is there anyone else? Mr Mrs Jones: No. It’s just the two of us. Checking in desk: Do you both have your passports with you? Mr Mrs Jones: Yes. Here they are. Checking in desk: I will be going to ask some questions. Just answer with a simple yes or a no. Mr Mrs Jones: OK, no problem. Checking in desk: As anyone you don’t know asked you to take anything on the plane for them? Mr Mrs Jones: No. Checking in desk: Have you have sole possession of all your luggage since you packed? Mr Mrs Jones: Yes. Checking in desk: Have you at any time left your luggage unattended while being in the airport? Mr Mrs Jones: No. Checking in desk: Do you have any weapons or firearms in your possession? Mr Mrs Jones: No. Checking in desk: Have you any flammable material in your luggage? Mr Mrs Jones: No. Checking in desk: Do you have any perishable food items in your bags or suitcases? Mr Mrs Jones: No. Checking in desk: That’s good. Can you put your luggage here please Mr Mrs Jones: OK. Checking in desk: What seat would you like an aisle seat or a window? Mr Mrs Jones: Can I have 2 seats near the emergency exit. Checking in desk: Wait I will check for you. Yes that’s OK, I am placing you two in 21 A and 21 B. The gate number is A 22. You can start boarding the plane in 30 minutes and the plane will take off in 1 hour. Mr Mrs Jones: Can you tell me how to get to gate A 22? Checking in desk: yes, go straight ahead and turn left at the end turn right and A 22 is there follow the signs for your gate number on the bottom of ticket Mr Mrs Jones: Thank you for all your help
In Flight: Flight attendant: Would you like something to drink? Passenger: I would like a coke. Flight attendant: Would you like a snack? Passenger: Sure. I would like some peanuts. ※ Flight attendant: Would you like chicken or beef? Passenger: I would like chicken. Flight attendant: Would you like something to drink? Passenger: I would like some orange juice. Passenger: Excuse me. May I get a blanket? Flight attendant: Sure. I will be right back. Passenger: May I have a pack of cards? Flight attendant: Sorry, we don’t have any available right now.

Passenger : I have an e-ticket. Uh. . . is the part you need? Check-in : Actually I just need your name and I can find you on the computer. Passenger : Oh okay. It’s Bates. Frank Bates. Check-in : Great. Here we are. Oh, you’re travelling with an infant today. Passenger : Yes, my daughter Mia. She’s 14 months. Check-in : Okay. I’ll need to see your daughter’s birth certificate to prove that she is under two years of age. Passenger : Here you are. Say, would we be able to get an aisle seat? I may have to walk her around if she gets fussy. Check-in : Sure. I’ll put you near the washroom too. Passenger : Thanks. Can I take my stroller to the gate? Check-in : Yes, we’ll check it in the over-sized luggage after you board. Are you just checking these two bags today? Passenger : Yes, I’ll take my knapsack as my carry-on. Check-in : Did you pack these bags yourself? Passenger : Yes. Check-in : Okay. Here is your boarding pass. Be at the gate one hour prior to boarding time. You will be able to preboard because you are traveling with an infant. Our flight crew will have some special instructions for take-off and landing.
First Time at the Airport. Bill : Hey! Are you alright ? You look confused. Paula : I’ve never been at an airport in my life. So I don’t really know where I have to go first. Bill : Well, for starters, where are you going? Paula : I’m going to Las Vegas on Continental flight 21. Bill : Ok! Let me see. First you need to check in at your airline’s counter. Paula : Yeah, I already did that. I got my boarding pass and checked my luggage. Bill : Well, then you need to go through the security check. Paula : Alrite. Anything after that? Bill : Nothing much. Just go to your gate and wait for the boarding call. Paula : Oh! That was easy. Thanks a lot.
Questions you will hear at the check-in counter: Ticket please. May I see your ticket? Do you have an e-ticket ? Do you have some photo ID? How many bags are you checking? Did you pack these bags yourself? Do you have a carry-on bag ? (a bag or purse to take on the airplane) Do you require special assistance? (example a “wheelchair”) Have you paid your airport improvement fee/tax? Would you like a window or an aisle seat? (aisle is pronounced “eye + l”)
Problems you may hear: Your baggage is overweight. (Remove some contents or pay a fine. ) Your carry-on luggage is too large. Your flight is delayed. (It’s late. ) Your flight has been cancelled. (You must rebook a new flight) Your connecting flight/connection has been cancelled/is delayed. Your ticket is expired. Your passport is expired.
Commands and questions at the Security Checkpoint: Boarding pass, please. ID please. (show your photo ID) Spread your arms out please. (Put your arms up and out to the sides of your body) Take your shoes off. Open your bag. Take off/remove your belt. Do you have any change in your pockets? Do you have any metals? Do you have any food/produce? Do you have any liquids or medicine? Walk through. You must dump all food or beverages. (You can’t bring it through the gates.
Questions YOU may need to ask: Is my flight on time? When should I be at the gate? Where is the boarding gate? Where is the washroom? Can I get a window seat? Is there somewhere to eat? Can I get a coffee at the gate? Is my connection on time? Where do I collect my baggage? Where can I find a taxi? Where is the departure gate? Where is the arrival gate? Where is the check-in desk for …. airlines? Where is the domestics level? Where is the international level?
