Purpose This presentation is intended to provide teachers and faculty of Mc. Cleskey Middle Purpose This presentation is intended to provide teachers and faculty of Mc. Cleskey Middle School Dragons (aka dragon trainers) with a brief overview of how non-fiction books in the media center are organized using the Dewey Decimal System. At the conclusion of this presentation, teachers to know where to find materials for their students related to the subjects they teach.

About Dewey • The Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) was developed by Melvil Dewey, a About Dewey • The Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) was developed by Melvil Dewey, a college librarian, in 1871 after he became frustrated with the impractical system he was using previously. • The DDC categorizes titles by subjects, using a system of Arabic numbers and systems. • Each DDC number is represented by three numbers. For further classification, a decimal and more numbers may follow. • The DDC call number is located on the book’s spine. • The DDC is used in most libraries today. O
