Workplan for Fiscal Year 2015 • Goals/Objectives: – – Enhance visibility of strong teachers Match attending teaching expertise to needs Board pass rate = 100% Match all residency slots • Action Plans – Increase participation of subspecialties in IM Residency Program in didactic lectures, morning report, and role of teaching attending – Subspecialists have been offered significantly more slots for MR – Majority of didactics are already subspecialty based but the entire curriculum is being re-evaluated. – Reinvigorate subspecialty rounds. – Survey residents and faculty to get feedback on rotations and educational sessions (including subspecialty rounds) 7

• 1 year study beginning July 2015 – randomizing programs to current duty hours or to more flexible intervention rules. • The intervention rules are constrained by only 3 standards, all averaged over 4 weeks: – 80 hours maximum per week – 1 day off in 7 – In-house call no more frequent than q 3 nights • Outcomes will be measured in patient safety and education • Trainees will be asked to complete a baseline and end-of -year surveys (June, 2015 and 2016) 13

Mentoring Plan: 2014 -2015 All junior faculty will be assigned a mentor – Suggested by faculty member and division chief – Within or outside of their division – Mentor and mentee establish goals and a plan to achieve these – Mentor and mentee meet regularly throughout year to “checkin” on progress/provide feedback toward attaining goals – Mentee ‘tool kit’ – Mentor ‘tool kit’ and training opportunities – Mentor, mentee, and division chief review these as a part of the annual review (i. e. mentor participates in the review)
