He continued to write political works, working as a journalist, until the early 1700.
Daniel Defoe wrote his world famous novel « Robinson Crusoe » when he nearly 60 years old. The history of « Robinson Crusoe » was based on the real adventures of a sailor called Alexander Selkirk , who had lived alone for four years on a desert island. When the book was published in 1719 , it immediately became popular. Defoe made his story so realistic that everyone believed it.
Defoe didn’t write his book for children. But every child now knows « Robinson Crusoe » . Daniel Defoe wrote many other book, but for « Robinson Crusoe » he is called « the father of English prose» . Defoe is remembered today as a journalist and author.

Daniel Defoe died on 24 April 1731, probably while in hiding from his creditors. He was interred in Bunhill Fields, London, where a monument was erected to his memory in 1870.
