Reauthorization of the Centers of Excellence (COE) Program • COEs: – improve recruitment/performance – facilitate research on minority health issues – train students/faculty to provide healthcare to minority individuals. Affordable Care Act (ACA)-reauthorized $50 million FY 2010 -2015 • 2005: 34 COEs Today: 20 COEs • • FY 2005 - $33. 6 million FY 2006 - 64. 7% cut to $11. 9 million FY 2008 - $12. 773 million FY 2010 Omnibus -$24. 6 million, $4 million increase over FY 2009.
Reauthorization of Health Careers Opportunity Program (HCOP) • HCOPS: – Funding to encourage minority, economically/academically disadvantaged students to pursue health professions. • • • Reauthorized ACA - $51 million FY 2011 -2014 2005: 74 HCOPs Today: 35 HCOPs FY 2005 - $35. 6 million FY 2006 - $4 million FY 2008 -$9. 825 million FY 2010 Omnibus - $22. 1 million, an increase of $3 million over FY 2009.
