Crisis Management Plan for Avon Public Schools When utilizing Avon Public School’s facilities it is the responsibility of the person in charge of the event to be aware of emergency procedures and also make those in attendance aware of emergency procedures. All occupants should be aware of pre-posted evacuation routes. These routes can be found posted on classroom walls and are also marked by neon EXIT signs in all hallways. Any questions regarding these procedures should be raised by those requesting building use at the time their request is submitted. Fire/Emergency Evacuation Gas Leak/Chemical Spill Person in charge 1. Be aware of pre-designed primary & alternate evacuation routes 1. Notify building occupants by PA, bullhorn or oral announcement to evacuate, whenever a strong odor of gas is reported 2. Close as you leave STOP 3. Leave building in orderly manner without rushing 2. Do not use fire alarm signal as it may take people into areas of highest gas concentration 3. Call 911 and tell the fire dispatcher you smell gas 4. Walk from the building in stated course Bomb Threat Evacuate building DO NOT TOUCH Suspicious Packages Direct someone to call 911 Do not use radios or electric bells 4. Notify the gas company 5. Always evacuate cross wind and/or upwind All Occupants 1. Evacuate to the assembly point when informed to do so 6. Evacuate at least 300 feet from building and out of the way of emergency vehicles 7. Report any missing immediately 9. Return when you are instructed STOP 2. Do not operate electrical switches 3. Use fire drill procedures for evacuation 4. Route around away from areas of strong odor 5. Ensure that medical care is given to anyone injured • STAY IN PLACE • Secure doors • Call 911 • Wait for 1 st responders
