WHO ARE OUR STUDENTS? • OSSD graduates who are missing a particular course for WHO ARE OUR STUDENTS? • OSSD graduates who are missing a particular course for postsecondary admission OR who want to brush up on their academic skills • OSSD early-leavers who need their OSSD for admission • Workers who want to improve their skills for the workplace – employment or promotion

Regional Student Profile Diverse group of learners who are mature with a range of Regional Student Profile Diverse group of learners who are mature with a range of life experiences: • High school graduate (ie approximately 30% are direct entry from high school) • Mature student with strong ties to the community (ie family, work commitments) • Students are entering through a number of pathways (ie upgrading, GED, mature student test) • First Nation learners access regional campuses to gain education, training and employment

ACADEMIC PREPAREDNESS PROGRAM ü Builds skills that have been forgotten or never learned ü ACADEMIC PREPAREDNESS PROGRAM ü Builds skills that have been forgotten or never learned ü Mastery learning (80% is a pass) so skills are strong and confidence grows ü Self-paced to accommodate different learning styles and schedules ü Students start at level based on placement test results (ESOT & TOWES)

PROGRAM FEATURES (CONT’D) • Classes in Communications and Mathematics with an emphasis on Trades PROGRAM FEATURES (CONT’D) • Classes in Communications and Mathematics with an emphasis on Trades Related Applications to meet goals (prepare for ACE, write MSA, meet entrance requirements etc. ) • Academic instruction provided individually Teachers are available in classroom daily • Learner centered, self-paced with an individualized training plan to meet students’ career/educational goals

Trades Based Application • Ensure that the students understand that academics are part of Trades Based Application • Ensure that the students understand that academics are part of the “trades” • E. G. Goldcorp Program.

ACE CERTIFICATE Communications • Academic and Career Entrance Program (ACE) – All Grade 12 ACE CERTIFICATE Communications • Academic and Career Entrance Program (ACE) – All Grade 12 Equivalent courses – ACE Certificate requires 4 ACE courses (Communications, Mathematics, and 2 others) Technical Math Business Math Core Math Computers Physics Chemistry Biology Self-Management Self Direction

PROGRAM CREDENTIALS • Can acquire the provincially recognized ACE Grade 12 Equivalent Certificate • PROGRAM CREDENTIALS • Can acquire the provincially recognized ACE Grade 12 Equivalent Certificate • ACE Certificate is accepted by Apprenticeship as equivalent to Grade 12 – In addition, meets requirements for an Apprenticeship Signing Bonus Program also offered through Employment Ontario • Offers all courses necessary for admission into all Confederation College programs
