History • Established in 1923 • For long time, CNR has acted as Advisor to the Government in matters of research and as a Funding Agency for university research • 1989: Ente di Ricerca, autonomous but supported by Ministry of Research • The present configuration was defined in 2003 (DL n. 127/2003) CNR is today essentially a Research Performing Organization 2

Cultural Heritage Department Institute of Archeological Heritage - Monuments and Sites (IBAM) Virtual Museum, Iraq Six thousand years of history witnessed by artefacts accompanied by information cards, videos, micro-clips and interactive geographical maps. The virtual exhibition, which is the result of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Research Council of Italy, employs the most advanced and engaging procedures of communication and cultural heritage fruition.
