Conditionals Условные предложения Type 0 Conditionals (общеизвестные истины) Выражают что-то, что является правдой. If + present simple, present simple e. g. If/When it rains, the roads get slippery and dangerous. Type 1 Conditionals (действительное настоящее) Выражают действительные или возможные ситуации в настоящем или будущем. If + present simple/pr. cont. /pr. perfect / pr. perf. cont. , future simple/ imperative/ can/ may/ might/ must/ should/ could + bare infinitive e. g. If we work hard, we’ll finish the project on time.
Type 2 Conditionals (недействительное настоящее) Выражают воображаемые ситуации, противопоставленные фактам в настоящем, и поэтому, маловероятно, что они произойдут в настоящем или будущем. Также используются для того, чтобы дать совет. If +past simple or past continuous, Would/could/might + present bare infinitive e. g. If I didn’t have to work such long hours, I wouldn’t be so tired. Type 3 Conditionals (недействительное прошлое) Выражает воображаемые ситуации, противопоставленные фактам в прошлом. Также используются, чтобы выразить сожаление или критику. If + past perfect/ past perfect continuous, would/ could/ might + perfect bare infinitive e. g. If I had been more careful, I wouldn’t have made such a big mistake.
Other expressions: unless (= if not) – Type 1 Conditionals; providing (при условии, что; в случае); provided (that); as long as (поскольку; пока); on condition (that), but for + -ing form/noun; otherwise (иначе; в противном случае); or else; what if; supposing (допустим; если бы; предположим, что); even if; only if. e. g. Unless you help me, I won’t finish on time. (= If you don’t help me…) Supposing you were tired, what would you do? (= If you were tired…) He agreed to work Saturdays on condition that he was paid overtime. (…if he was paid…)
Omission of ‘if’ Можно опустить if в Type 1, 2, 3 Conditionals (для официального английского языка) и использовать инверсию (перестановка). e. g. If he should fail to be re-elected, it would be a great disappointment to him. → Should he fail to be re-elected, it would be a great disappointment to him. If he was/were more careful, he would make fewer mistakes. → Were he more careful, he would make fewer mistakes. If she had been asked, she would have given her permission. → Had she been asked, she would have given her permission
