1 Corinthians 6: 9 -11 (Complete Jewish Bible) 9 Don't you know that unrighteous people will have no share in the Kingdom of God? Don't delude yourselves people who engage in sex before marriage, who worship idols, who engage in sex after marriage with someone other than their spouse, who engage in active or passive homosexuality, 10 who steal, who are greedy, who get drunk, who assail people with contemptuous language, who rob - none of them will share in the Kingdom of God. 11 Some of you used to do these things. But you have cleansed yourselves, you have been set apart for God, you have come to be counted righteous through the power of the Lord Yeshua the Messiah and the Spirit of our God.

Church Fathers • There are 2 groups of Early Church Fathers: • The Latin Church Fathers • The Greek Church Fathers Greek Latin
Church Fathers • We are going to learn what they teach about the Church Fathers in Bible School • and then we’re going to learn the truth about these men. • I’ll tell you what they DON’T teach you in Bible school
Church Fathers • One of the earliest Latin Church Fathers is a man named Tertullian. • 150 -230 AD • He was from what is today called Tunisia. • Tunisia is near the top of the African continent.
Church Fathers • He was the son of a Roman Centurion and raised as a Pagan. • He converted to Christianity, and he is now known to the Church as the “First Great Latin Christian Writer”. • He’s the one who introduced the word “Trinity”. • Many Christians use that word today.
Church Fathers • The Catholic Church made him into a Saint. • The Protestant Church believes he was a “Great man of God”.
Church Fathers • In most every Bible school in the world (but not in Messianic Yeshivas hopefully) they teach about Tertullian and his “amazing understanding of Christianity”.
Church Fathers • Let’s look at who he really was. • Tertullian later became a Montanist. • Montanism believed in the cult of Cybele, a fertility goddess.
Church Fathers • The leader of the cult was a man named Montanus. • He was joined by two young women who left their husbands to “prophecy” with him.
Church Fathers • Montanus also claimed to be G-d! • He said, “I am neither an angel nor an envoy, but I the Lord G-d the Father have come. ”
Church Fathers • Montanism grew rapidly with the help of Tertullian • and the Church still calls him a Church Father. • Tertullian, not my Church Father!
Church Fathers • St Jerome is also known as Eusebius. • 347 -420 AD • Also a Latin Church Father and bishop of Caesarea in Palestine.
Church Fathers • He is known as the “Father of Church History” because of his work in recording early church history. • Because of Esebius, we know much about what happened in the beginnings of the Church.
Church Fathers • You’ll hear me often quote Esebius when it comes to Church History. • His writings are important in order to understand what took place back then. • As a historian, he is very good.
Church Fathers • But should we consider him to be a “Church Father”? • Esebius believed in Aryan Christianity. • That is the belief that Jesus is not G-d.
Church Fathers • He believed that Jesus was a created being, • just like the Jehovah's witnesses and the Mormons teach. • Esebius also hated the Jews.
Church Fathers • Tell me, how can you hate the Jews and be a Believer? • Wasn’t Yeshua a Jew? Weren’t the disciples Jews? • Esebius… not my church father!
Church Fathers • This is St Augustine. • 354 -430 AD • Another Latin Church Father • From Algeria
Church Fathers • He was one of the most important figures in the development of Western Christianity. • He’s the one who framed the concept of “original sin”. • Many of you are familiar with this theology and it is correct in parts.
Church Fathers • But what they neglect to teach you in Bible school is that he believed in infant baptism. • He even taught that if an infant died before it was baptized, it went to hell.
Church Fathers • Augustine even taught the world would be better off if everybody stopped procreating, because it would force Christ to come back sooner. • A baby going to hell? Stop having children? Where is that in the Bible? Did he even read this book? St Augustine
Church Fathers • Not only that, he combined the teachings of Plato with Christianity. • Plato was a Greek philosopher who didn’t believe in the Bible. • Augustine took Platos humanistic ideals and combined it with theology. Plato
Church Fathers • People often ask me how humanism got into the Church? • I tell them, “because of Augustine”. • Augustine, not my church Father!
Church Fathers • Let’s look at the Greek Church Fathers • St Irenaeus • 125 -177 AD approx (we don’t know for sure) • He was a Bishop.
Church Fathers • He was taught by Polycarp was a great man who was the last person to be taught by the Disciple, John the Beloved.
Church Fathers • So Irenaeus had great teaching right from the beginning. • He led the fight against Gnosticism. • Gnosticism was one of the greatest heresies facing the early Church. Gnosticism almost destroyed it.
Church Fathers • Irenaeus wrote many books against it, and with those writings he helped saved the Church. • He was a very powerful writer. • A very intelligent man.
Church Fathers • But he also hated the Jews. • He said the Jews were directly responsible for killing Jesus. • The truth is, all mankind is responsible for the Death of the Messiah. Not just the Jews.
Church Fathers • Irenaeus hated the Jews so much that he took out everything in the church that was Jewish. • Step by step he took the Jewishness out of the Bible.
Church Fathers • He was one of the first to teach “Replacement Theology” • The belief that the Church has replaced Israel and that Israel will never be saved.
Church Fathers • He taught that any good promises to Israel are now promises to the Church… • even promises that G-d says are Israel’s forever. • But any bad promises to Israel, are still Israel's.
Church Fathers • When G-d says forever, he means forever and when he says in Rom 11: 26 that all Israel shall be saved, he means that too. • Replacement theology is just another form of anti. Semitism. • Irenaeus was an anti. Semite and he’s not my church father!
Church Fathers • Clement of Alexandria • 150 - 211/216 AD • He attended Alexandria's Catechical School…
Church Fathers • one of the most famous schools in ancient Christendom. • Three of his greatest works together are called the “Trilogy”
Church Fathers • Bible scholars call it the “boldest literary undertaking in the history of the Church” • He was also the teacher of one of the most well known Church Fathers of all time… Origin
Church Fathers • What they don’t tell you in Bible school is that Clement of Alexandria was just another man who injected Greek philosophy into a Hebrew book. • He’s proud of it matter of fact….
Church Fathers • He wrote: “All the churches of the west were Greek religious colonies. • Their language was Greek, • their organization Greek, • their writers Greek • and their ritual Greek.
Church Fathers • Thus the church at Rome was but one of a confederation of Greek religious republics rounded by Christianity”. • In other words, with a little Christianity mixed in.
Church Fathers • I don’t want a Greek religion with a little Christianity. • But that’s what Christianity has been for the last 1, 800 years.
Church Fathers • That should make you angry. • These Church Fathers polluted pure belief in Jesus and they even bragged about it. • Clement of Alexandria… not my church father
Church Fathers • This is Origin • 185 -254 AD • The most distinguished and influential of all theologians of the ancient Church.
Church Fathers • He is credited to be the first systematic Theologian. • That means he took all the main points of theology • and categorized them in an understandable manner so it would be easier for others to comprehend.
Church Fathers • What they don’t tell you in Bible School is he castrated himself. • He cut off a piece of his body so he couldn’t have any children. • This is a practice forbidden in Scripture! • Deut. 14: 1 “Ye shall not cut yourselves!”.
Church Fathers • Did he skip that part? • Doesn’t it seem that most of these so called “Church Fathers” skipped a lot of Scripture.
Church Fathers • How can one’s theology be balanced if one skips Scripture? How can they have any integrity? • Job 31: 6 Let me be weighed in an even balance that God may know mine integrity.
Church Fathers • Origin mutilated himself and I think I speak for most men here…he is not our Church Father! AMEN?
Church Fathers • St. John Chrysostom • Saint John Chrysostom (Golden-mouthed). • “The greatest preacher in the history of the Church”. • Thus the name given him, and the most prominent Greek father of the Church.
Church Fathers • He grew up in Antioch, received an excellent classical Greek education, and upon meeting the holy bishop Meletus, he decided to devote his time to the study of religious works. • He received Baptism after three years of study and set out for the desert to live the ascetic life of a hermit.
Church Fathers • His extreme mortifications left him in fragile health, and he then returned to Antioch after 2 years to recover, and devote himself to studying for the priesthood.
Church Fathers • He was ordained in 386 and served in the cathedral of Antioch for 12 years winning widespread fame for his “sublime” preaching. • Well, let’s hear some of this great preaching!
Church Fathers • "The Jews are more savage than any highwaymen and do greater harm to those who have fallen among them. • The Jews mortally hurt their victim’s soul, inflicting ten thousand wounds, and leave it lying in a pit of ungodliness“
Church Fathers • "Do you not hear what God said to Jeremiah about the Jews? ‘Do not intercede for these people!” • "The Jews are the most miserable and wretched of all men!“ • “The difference between the Jews and us is not a small one, is it? They crucified the Christ!”
Church Fathers • “Isaiah called the Jews dogs and Jeremiah called them mare-mad horses. ” • I want us to shun the evil gatherings of the Jews and their synagogues, both in the city and in the suburbs, because these are robbers’ dens and dwellings of demons…
Church Fathers • “Israel is as obstinate as a stubborn heifer. • Although such beasts are unfit for work, they are fit for killing. This is why Christ said: "But as for these my enemies, who did not want me to be king over them, bring them here and slay them". ”
Church Fathers • "The festivals of the pitiful and miserable Jews are soon to march upon us one after the other and in quick succession: the feast of Trumpets, the feast of Tabernacles, the fasts. There are many in our ranks who say they think as we do. Yet some of these are going to watch the festivals and others will join the Jews in keeping their feasts and observing their fasts. I wish to drive this perverse custom from the Church right now. "
Church Fathers • "Shall I tell you of their plundering, their covetousness, their abandonment of the poor, their thefts, their cheating in trade? the whole day long will not be enough to give you an account of these things. But do their festivals have something solemn and great about them? They have shown that these, too, are impure. "
Church Fathers • “St. ” John Chrysostom… • Is he your Church Father?
Church Fathers • This is Martin Luther • 1483 -1546 AD • A German Monk • He is accredited for the birth of Protestantism. • He translated the Bible into the vernacular of the day… revolutionary!
Church Fathers • That hadn’t been done for over a thousand years. • He posted the famous 95 thesis on the door of a Catholic Church. • These thesis's were 95 things that were wrong with the Catholic Theology.
Church Fathers • For example, the use of indulgences. • The use of Indulgences was the practice of using money to absolve sins. • Back then, you could pay for your sins with money.
Church Fathers • He said this is wrong and he was kicked out of the Catholic Church because of it. • He was a priest and he lost his job.
Church Fathers • When he was young he was a good man. • He wrote some good theology. • He liked the Jewish people.
Church Fathers • He witnessed to them • He really wanted them to convert • But they didn’t convert • And he got angry
Church Fathers • He started to hate the Jews. • It started out slow. • Just quoting Scripture • Exo 32: 9 And the LORD said unto Moses, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiff-necked people: • God said that so he thought it must be ok for him to say it too.
Church Fathers • Luther said they are a rebellious people • The Bible says that too about the Jews. • there are times when Jews called each other names such as vipers and hypocrites. • Luther started using those names as well
Church Fathers • Anti-Semitism isn’t always easy to see at first, sometimes it wont come out in people for years but it’s there deep inside them. • Luther didn’t hide his for long
Church Fathers • Let’s look at some more things that he said from his book, “On The Jews And Their Lies”.
Church Fathers • I wouldn’t say some of these things in a church, • but you as Bible students need to hear what Luther writes.
Church Fathers • Luther wrote that “The Jews are full of the devil's feces. . . which they wallow in like swine, and the synagogue is an incorrigible whore and an evil slut. . . "
Church Fathers • Luther writes of the Jews: • “Our Lord calls them a ‘brood of vipers’ they are the Devil's children”.
Church Fathers • “Therefore the blind Jews are truly stupid fools. • They are a miserable, blind, and senseless people. • You cannot learn anything from them”.
Church Fathers • “Be on your guard against the Jews, • they are nothing but thieves and robbers. ” • He says sarcastically…
Church Fathers • “Did I not tell you earlier that a Jew is such a noble, precious jewel that God and all the angels dance when he passes gas? • We should toss out these lazy rogues by the seat of their pants. ”
Church Fathers • “Eject them forever from this country and be rid of the unbearable, devilish burden of the Jews!”
Church Fathers • “Do not grant them protection, safeconduct, or communion with us • Don’t give them food, drink, or shelter • The Jews are the devil and eternal death. ”
Church Fathers • “My sincere advice: • First, set fire to their synagogues and schools and bury what doesn’t burn, so that no man will ever again see a cinder of them. This is to be done in honor of our Lord and of Christendom”
Church Fathers • Second, destroy and flatten their houses. • Third, I advise that all their prayer books and Talmuds be burned. ”
Church Fathers • “If their Rabbis teach, cut off their arms and legs and kill them. They are villains. • Do not protect them. • Fourth, take all their gold and silver and cash. • Drive them out like mad dogs. ”
Church Fathers • “These wretched people. Blind, venomous Jews. • “We are at fault in not slaying them. ”
Church Fathers • This is all throughout his book. • After he wrote this publication he didn’t preach it for a while (3 years) 3
Church Fathers • Then one day he took it to the pulpit and did preach it to the people. 3 Days later, he had a stroke which left him speechless. 3
Church Fathers • He wasn’t able to talk. Interesting? • Not another day passed and he died. • Martin Luther… not my Church Father!
Church Fathers • John Calvin • 1509 -1564 • The Baptists claim him as their founder • He was a leader of the Protestant Reformation.
Church Fathers • He wrote “The Institutes of the Christian Religion” still used today by the Baptists. • I’ve read it, it’s a brilliant work and I learned a lot from it.
Church Fathers • He wrote most of his theology in Geneva, Switzerland where he ruled. • I’ve been to the Church where he used to preach from.
Church Fathers • Back then, I didn’t know he was a murderer • On Oct 27 th John Calvin the founder of Calvinism • ordered Michael Servutus, the Spanish physician, • burned alive at the stake…
Church Fathers • because Servutus didn’t believe in infant baptism • Here’s what was written about it…
Church Fathers • “When the executioner began his work, Michael whispered in a trembling voice, ‘Oh G-d oh G-d. ’ A friend of Calvin’s said, ‘You have nothing else to say? ’ Servutus replied, ‘What else might I do but speak of G-d? ’ He was then chained to the stake and the wood beneath him was lit. As he cried out in horror from the pain of his skin melting from the fire he pleaded ‘Mercy mercy. Jesus, Son of the living G-d have mercy on me’. The wood was green so it burned slowly. For more then a half hour he screamed in torment. John Calvin showed no regret. ”
Church Fathers • July 26 th 1547 Calvin murdered Jacques Gruet. • He first tortured him for a month and then beheaded him. • Why did this Church Father have him killed? Because Mr. Gruet called Calvin a “hypocrite”.
Church Fathers • Within 5 years John Calvin passed down 58 sentences of death and 76 of exile! • John Calvin was a ruthless monster.
Church Fathers • He taught that G-d forces the Elect to believe in Him. • So he enforced a law that he himself had created that if the residents of Geneva didn’t go to his Church, they would be beaten, jailed or killed.
Church Fathers • He also wrote that if anyone disagreed with his book, the Institutes of the Christian Religion, they were to be put to death. • John Calvin is not my Church Father!
Church Fathers • Why do I point out the facts about these men? • Just to bash them? • No. It’s so we will know the whole truth about them… • so you wont enter into studying about them blindly.
Church Fathers • Also, so you’ll come to understand why the Jews of today aren’t so quick to become Christians. • Even though we may not be familiar with our own Church Fathers, the Jews are familiar with them.
Church Fathers • When you ask, “Why don’t the Jews convert? Why don’t they understand? ” • The lack of understanding isn’t on their part it’s on ours.
Church Fathers • Does this division between the Church and the Jews go way back? • Yes it does. Not only between the Church and the Jews but between the Church and the Jewish Believers… the first Jewish Believers, the sect of the Nazarenes.
Church Fathers • I want to read a statement written by the Church father, Epiphanius…
Church Fathers • He is also a Church Father. • He lived around 300 AD. • He was a Christian who felt that those in the First Church, the sect of the Nazarenes were quite different then the Christians.
Church Fathers • He wrote something that is suppressed today by Bible Commentators… • I’d like to read some excerpts from his work “Panarion”:
Church Fathers • But these sectarians. . . did not call themselves Christians--but "Nazarenes, ". . . However they are simply complete Jews. They use not only the New Testament but the Old Testament as well, as the Jews do. . . They have no different ideas, but confess everything exactly as the Law proclaims it and in the Jewish fashion-- except for their belief in Messiah, if you please! For they acknowledge both the resurrection of the dead and the divine creation of all things, and declare that G-d is one, and that his son is Y'shua the Messiah. They are trained to a nicety in Hebrew.
Church Fathers • For among them the entire Law, the Prophets, and the. . . Writings. . . are read in Hebrew, as they surely are by the Jews. They are different from the Jews, and different from Christians, only in the following. They disagree with Jews because they have come to faith in Messiah; but since they are still fettered by the Law--circumcision, the Sabbath, and the rest-- they are not in accordance with Christians. . they are nothing but Jews. . They have the Goodnews according to Matthew in its entirety in the Hebrew language. For it is clear that they still preserve this, in the Hebrew alphabet, as it was originally written. (Epiphanius; Panarion 29)
Church Fathers • So you can see clearly that the Christian Church was opposed to the First Church. • 300 years after the time of Yeshua the First Church was still keeping G-d’s Law.
Church Fathers • It’s important that we understand that. • It’s also important to understand that today that line is being drawn again between the Church in general and the Messianic Movement.
Church Fathers • It’s good you’re attending here, I encourage you to stay on the right side of that line. • The other side has a history of Jew hatred and the price has not yet been paid.
Church Fathers • If these truly are the Last Days you may not want to be standing under the Christian Banner with Martin Luther, John Chrysostom and the likes, there is blood on that flag.
Church Fathers • Better to be standing under one of the 12 flags of the tribes of Israel. • At least there, there wont be any confusion as to which side you are on. • Shabbat Shalom.
