History In the past Drogheda had an important defence function. l Port was the most important function in the past. l It was the basis of Drogheda’s industrial function. l Industries included ironworks, shipbuilding, shoe-makers, oil and cake mills, textiles. l
History World famous textile industry. l Yarn and linen mills. l Raw cotton imported, then spun and bleached in Drogheda. l Mills had closed by the early 20 th century. l However world famous Greenhills towel and sheet factory remained opened. l
