Collaborating with SMEs – some advice • Don’t ask them because you need an SME involved – ask them because you need their expertise. We don’t want to be a “token” SME in a proposal. • Review the SME website but be aware that this may not reveal all. . . • Don’t expect the SME to write the proposal for you. • Approach them early – at least 3 months before the submission deadline. • Remember, SMEs are in business to make a profit – they will always look for the commercial output from a grant.
