THE TRAINING PROGRAM The Training Programme has a modular structure, starting with a one day Introduction Course and working through the Part I, II and III Certificates and finally the Part IV Diploma. The programme is open to everybody with the Introduction course requiring no prior learning or qualifications and the programme is designed to allow you to become as involved as you like - with courses in a wide range of topics and subject areas within nautical archaeology there is something for everybody!
THE WORK THAT GRADUATE OF THIS PROGRAM DO The Nautical Archaeology Society Training Programme is aligned with the National Occupation Standards (NOS) for Archaeological Practice. Occupations standards describe the skills, knowledge and understanding needed to undertake a particular task or job to a nationally recognised level of competence. They are the building blocks of the NVQ in Archaeological Practice and by aligning with the NOS the NAS Training Programme is teaching skills needed by practicing archaeologists. WHERE YOU WOULD/COULD WORK Archaeologists examine ancient sites and objects to learn about the past. They may specialise in particular geographical areas, historical periods or types of object, such as pottery, coins or bones. Many people associate archaeologists with carrying out excavations, commonly called 'digs'. This work and the related recording, analysing and interpreting of archaeological remains, are only part of what some archaeologists do. They may also work in a range of other settings including: • • local authorities, advising on the archaeological implications of planning applications; • universities and research organisations, carrying out research and educational work. museums or heritage centres, assisting with the preservation, conservation, display and interpretation of artefacts;
