Cambridge English: First, also known as First Certificate in English (FCE), is an exam for people who need to prove they can use everyday written and spoken English at an upper-intermediate level for work or study purposes. What is the FCE test like? The test has five sections: § Reading - 60 minutes § Writing - 2 tasks, 80 minutes § Use of English - 45 minutes § Listening - 40 minutes § Speaking - interview, two /three candidates, 14 minutes 9
§ Cambridge English: First gives detailed, meaningful results. All candidates receive a Statement of Results. Candidates whose performance ranges between CEFR Levels C 1 and B 1 will also receive a certificate. § Cambridge English: First – Level C 1 - Exceptional candidates sometimes show ability beyond B 2 level. § Cambridge English: First – Level B 2 If the candidate achieves grade B or C in your exam, he/she will be awarded the First Certificate in English at Level B 2. § Level B 1 Certificate If his/her performance is below Level B 2, but falls within Level B 1, he/she will receive a Cambridge English certificate stating that he/she demonstrated ability at B 1 level. 10
Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) is a high-level English qualification which tests a variety of language skills in depth- for people who want to use English in demanding study and work situations. § § § What is the CAE test like? The test has five sections: Reading- 75 min, Writing-90 min, Use of English-60 min, Listening-40 min. The Speaking test is taken face-to-face with two/three candidates and two examiners. 11
-Certificate in Advanced English – Level C 2 Exceptional candidates sometimes show ability beyond C 1 level. If a candidate achieves grade A in his/her exam, he/she will receive the Certificate in Advanced English stating that he/she demonstrated ability at Level C 2. -Certificate in Advanced English – Level C 1 If the candidate achieves grade B or C in the exam, he/she will be awarded the Certificate in Advanced English at Level C 1. Level B 2 certificate -If his/her performance is below Level C 1, but falls within Level B 2, he/she will receive a Cambridge English certificate stating that he/she demonstrated ability at B 2 level. 12
