• Jerusalem is the capital of Israel and also the holiest place in Israel.
• The Western Wall is one of the last remaining pieces of the Ancient Temple of King Solomon. • People in Israel write a prayer on a piece of paper and stick it into the walls so God will read them.
• The Temple Mount is an important religious Muslim Mosque, Jewish Temple, and Christian site in Jerusalem.
• Tel Aviv is a very popular city in Israel that attracts many tourists. • Tel Aviv used to be just a sand dune, but in 1910, David Ben Gurion and other Jewish people founded the city.
• Twenty million years ago, the Arabian peninsula tore away from Africa and the Red Sea was formed. • The Red Sea isn’t red, but the reason it got that title is because of the algae inside it; called Trichodesmium erythraeum. They seem to turn the blue-green ocean reddish brown when they die off.
• The Dead Sea has ten times as much salt as the ocean. • There are no living creatures in the Dead Sea except for many types of bacteria that have adapted to living in such harsh and excessive amounts of salt.
• Mount Hermon is the highest point in Israel. • It is the only place that snows regularly in Israel.
• Masada is an isolated rock cliff west of the Judean desert and overlooking the Dead Sea.
• The Negev Desert makes up more than half of Israel’s land. • Only 2 -4 inches of rain falls every year.
• Eilat is a very popular tourist city in Israel packed with hotels and beaches. • Thousands of people from around the world come to Eilat, Israel. • It is the southern most point in Israel and is extremely hot.
• The Golan heights is Israel’s industrial and agricultural area. • The Golan Heights was captured by Israel during the 1967 war from Syria.
• The Holocaust Museum at Yad Vashem is a memorial and teaching center for the Holocaust. It also is for documentation and research about the Holocaust. • It was established in 1953.
• Acre is a city that was given to the tribe, Asher. • It has the remains of the ancient crusaders’ fortress.
• The Banias is a powerful, beautiful waterfall later which leads into the Jordan River.
• The Old City of Jerusalem is divided into four parts; The Muslim, Jewish, Christian, and the Armenian quarter. • There are many historical sites within the Old City. For example, the Temple Mount, Western Wall, and David’s Tower.
