Buy the Truth and Sell It Not Prov. 23: 23; Mat. 13: 45 -45

Introduction • Sales persons and purchasers • Buying/selling, practice of ancients – Gen. 17: 12, 13; 23: 3 -16; 42: 1 -2, etc. – Foodstuffs, real estate, precious metals, clothing, etc. – “Price negotiation” Prov. 20: 14 • Getting price of a desired purchase indicated. Mat. 13: 45 -46

Introduction • “Buy” and “sell” used figuratively to teach vital lesson. Prov. 23: 23

Buy the TRUTH • Urged to buy as a desired commodity • Truth? – God, a God of truth. Ex. 34: 6; Dt. 32: 4 – Truth exemplified in Christ. Jn. 14: 6 – Thus, message coming forth of God is truth. Jn. 17: 17; Eph. 1: 13; Col. 1: 5; 2 Tim. 2: 15; Jas. 1: 18 – “Present truth” (gospel). 2 Pet. 1: 12

Buy the TRUTH • Why buy it? – Will save. Heb. 7: 25; Rom. 1: 16 – Need it to live Christian life. I Pet. 3: 15; Eph. 4: 21

Buy ONLY the Truth • Be wary of counterfeits. • Not every thing in the market place is legitimate. – Satan has ministers. 2 Cor. 11: 13 -15 – Other warnings. I Jn. 4: 1; 2 Pet. 2: 1 • Examine before accepting. Acts 17: 11 I Thes. 5: 21

Buy ALL the Truth • Great mistake—buying part truth or what is not truth. • Some will accept part truth… – Regarding salvation’s plan. – Pattern of worship. (Leave off some, add other).

Buy the Truth REGARDLESS… • Regardless of price. Cf. Mat. 13: 45 -46 • Be willing to pay the price. – Self-denial – Family relationships Mat. 10: 37 – Business ties, popularity, etc. – Even death. Cf. 2 Tim. 3: 12; I Pet. 3: 17; Rev. 2: 10

BUY the Truth • Not enough to hear it, or hear about it. Cf. Jas. 1: 22 • Not enough to “know it. ” cf. Rom. 2: 18 ff • Not sufficient to recommend it • Will bless only if it is accepted

Buy the Truth NOW • Don’t gamble on tomorrow. Jas. 4: 14 • “Today” Heb. 3: 15; 4: 7 -9 • “Now” 2 Cor. 6: 1 -2

SELL IT NOT • Treat it as a permanent possession • Don’t let livelihood, pleasure, or other matters separate you from it. – Cheated even if for whole world. Mat. 16: 26 – Ruined eternally without it.

Conclusion • • Will YOU accept the truth? BUY it today. Accept Jesus and His word NOW. Sell it not!!!
