Contracts are enforceable agreements. Contract written oral (these are agreements whose terms are manifested by clear and definite language) implied (implied by conduct – an agreement inferred from the conduct of the parties implied in law – created by operation of law) What makes a contract valid (legally acceptable, often for a fixed period of time)? a) the parties entering a contract were of sound mind (were not insane) and had the required legal capacity and mental ability; b) there was mutual acceptance of the agreed-upon terms. An essential feature of a contract is consideration – something of value given or promised by one party in exchange for an act or promise of another. Breach of contract is the unjustified failure of a party to perform a duty or obligation specified in a contract.
VARIOUS KINDS OF CONTRACTS 1. Employment contract/contract of employment – a legally binding agreement of employer and employee, stating the responsibilities and obligations of both parties. 2. Service contract – an agreement between a company and a customer, stating what product or service the company will provide, and any arrangements for delivery, payment, repair, etc. 3. Turnkey contract – a contract for a building project in which the company doing the work must finish the work and leave the building, factory, etc. ready to operate. 4. Hire purchase contract – an agreement to buy something by making payments over a period of time.
Reports are documents which offer the reader the results of an enquiry of some sort (such as research, technical inspection, visit, and feasibility studies) or an account of some event(s). ‘Curriculum Vitae’ (CV for short; called a resume in the US) is a short list of facts about you, your skills, qualifications, experience and career history. It is normally sent together with a covering letter. A price list is a listing of prices for different products or services. Agendas are lists of items which are to be discussed at a meeting. Minutes are the written record of that meeting.
