MIP LM 3086 Laser Opacity Monitor Laser Advantages www. cemtrex. com The LM 3086 EPA 3 stands out with unique advantages as compared to any pulsed LED source: • LM 3086's He-Ne Laser source is highly stable and collimated coherent light, used for calibrating Spectro-photometers, which in turn used to calibrate LED light sources used by other LED based. • • For Filter audits, we don’t have to remove the monitor off the stack; LM 3086 has an Insitu online audit check facility. Double pass retro-reflector based design requires off-stack audit checks. LM 3086 uses zero pipe fiber optic for auditing. Zero pipe fiber optic from transmitter to receiver does a true online zero correction 40 times a second, so the readings are very reliable and accurate. Others have to switch a mirror to do zeroing once in a few hours or days. “Leaders in Emissions Monitoring Technologies”
MIP LM 3086 Laser Opacity Monitor Laser Advantages Continued www. cemtrex. com • Retro-reflector dust accumulation is not measured in others. LM 3086 measures dust accumulation using the zero fiber optic pipe always online. • Others double pass design has interference problems by back-scattered and reflected light from the flue dust particles. LM 3086 uses single pass technique, reflected light do not have any effect. • LM 3086 uses 100 mm large Receiver lens, with a under-filled design meaning all the light is captured always, so it is path length independent, others being a LED (non-coherent source with lots of split beam optical components inside) can collect only a part of the light, so any path length changes affects the zero of the instrument. There are several more other advantages using a Laser source and Cemtrex LM 3086, in terms of less hardware components in the instruments, more reliability, accuracy etc. Please ask for our detailed specs and brochure. “Leaders in Emissions Monitoring Technologies”
MIP LM 3086 Laser Opacity Monitor Performance www. cemtrex. com ORDER OF CORRECTION IN LM 3086 WINDOW DUST TO BE CORRECTED FIRST Op(without window dust) < > Op(total dust) - Op(window dust) Because Opacity is proportional to Log of Optical Density 1 - Op = 10 -D So Op(without window dust) = 1 - (1 -Op(total dust))/(1 -Op(window dust)) Unfortunately EPA does not provide any test procedure to ensure that the window correction is correctly applied. It is up to owners and operators to make sure of this. A very simple test is already outlined above: With no window correction, prevent the beam from entering to receiver. Check that the opacity reads 100% (or 99. 9%) Simulate the dirt contamination by inserting a filter in front of detector and running the monitor through zero/calibration cycle. Check that the window compensation is now different from zero. Repeat the test (a) but now with window compensation value different from zero. The monitor must read still 100 % (99, 9 %) and not a lower value, if correction is implemented in a correct way. “Leaders in Emissions Monitoring Technologies”
MIP LM 3086 Laser Opacity Monitor Performance www. cemtrex. com ORDER OF CORRECTION IN LM 3086 PATHLENGTH NEXT AND AVERAGING LAST Op 2 = 1 - (1 -Op 1)PLCF , where Op 1 = window corrected opacity at the installation path Op 2 = Opacity converted to end-of-stack PLCF = Path length Correction Factor OTHER MONITORS AVERAGE FIRST AND THE CONTROLLER DOES THE PLCF CORRECTION LAST!!! A bag filter is pressurized once per minute for 6 seconds. There is a small hole in the bag and monitor shows 50 % during this pressure pulse, but otherwise opacity = 0 %. The stack has PLCF-value of 2. 0. What are the expected 6 minute-average opacity readings in the two cases: Case 1 (Average first): The opacity is 50 % = 0. 5 for 6 x 6 = 36 seconds out of 360 total seconds (6 minutes). The average opacity = 36/360 x 50 % = 5 %. With PLCF = 2. 0, Opx = 1 -(1 -0. 05) 2 = 9. 75 % IF THE CORRECTION ORDER IS Case 2 (PLCF first): WRONG, PLANT REPORTS Opx = 1 - (1 -0. 5)2 = 0. 75 = 75 % EXCESS OPACITY!!! Average Opx = 36/360 x 0. 75 = 0. 075 = 7. 5 % The wrong order will overbias the reading by 2, 25 % opacity (30 % error to correct reading). “Leaders in Emissions Monitoring Technologies”

MIP LM 3086 Laser Opacity Monitor Lightning Protector www. cemtrex. com LIGHTNING PROTECTION FOR THE OPACITY MONITOR The Signal line protectors will be mounted with suitable L brackets and all wiring will be done by us, as far the site is concerned the wiring has to be done as normal from outside, we will mount the protectors and wire them between site connection and our monitor connection. The protector for Receiver will be mounted inside the Transmitter because of space constraints. The same with controller, the protector will be mounted inside the controller pre-wired and plant has to do the wiring as normal. This applies to new monitors. The same applies for power line protectors, we will mount them between plant wiring input and outgoing into our power components. Detailed wiring diagram is available upon request.
