BTB Mission Statement Our mission is to assist our athletes in developing advanced baseball skills in a fun and positive environment while competing against players with similar abilities. Our objective is to provide an organized program for the young athletes in our community that will: • Develop self-confidence • Promote physical fitness • Teach respect for others, teamwork and pride in the community • Incorporate the spirit of sportsmanship in both victory and defeat • Allow players to compete in a safe environment • Promote hard work and a positive attitude • Highlight life lessons to be learned from winning and losing • Prepare players for the high school program • Encourage everyone to have fun **We expect everyone associated with the program to be a good role model for the kids and represent our community in a positive manner. Please remember, you represent all of us with your behavior at games! BTB 2016 Parent Meeting 5
2015 Burnsville Traveling Baseball Survey Highlights Myth #1: “Tryouts are biased because certain dads only coach so their kid can be on that team. No coaches should be announced until after tryouts. ” Fact: Coaches are NOT chosen until after tryouts are over. A player will not be rewarded or punished just because their parent has volunteered to coach. Myth #2: “It shouldn’t just be AAA coaches who get to evaluate during the tryout process. ” Fact: It’s not. BTB makes a concerted effort to choose potential coaches from all levels to take part in the evaluation process. Sometimes that’s not possible or doesn’t end up being the case once teams are formed. Myth #3: “Allowing coaches to pick players because of their parents or who they want as assistant coaches is ridiculous. ” Fact: We agree, and that is why it’s not allowed. BTB 2016 Parent Meeting 6
2015 Burnsville Traveling Baseball Survey Highlights (continued) Myth #4: “A third party needs to be involved with tryouts so the evaluations are done in an objective way. ” Fact: They are. At each age level, BTB uses a combination of three potential coach evaluators and two independent evaluators. While no system is perfect, we feel strongly that this is the best “formula” to get the most accurate teams. Myth #5: “This league is too expensive. ” Fact: BTB’s fees rank second-lowest in the entire metro area, and scholarships are available that would allow those with a demonstrated need to play for just $50. Myth #6: “I see no reason why parents should have to volunteer their time given how much it costs to play. BTB expects too much from parents. ” Fact: BTB is a community-based program run entirely by parent volunteers. Without them, there is no BTB for your child. If we didn’t host tournaments in town, the league fees would be substantially higher. BTB 2016 Parent Meeting 7
Traveling Baseball Commitment Those players/parents interested in the Traveling Baseball program must recognize the responsibility and commitment that accompanies being selected to play Traveling Baseball. • It is understood that the players will be on time for practices and games. Other sports or sports camps are not acceptable reasons for missing tryouts, practices, games or tournaments. Players can and will face consequences for failure to adhere to this policy, including progressively severe suspensions. • All parents or guardians of Traveling Baseball players are required to volunteer time for our Burnsville Tournament (June 3 -5) and the Burnsville-hosted MBT State Tournament (July 15 -17). BTB 2016 Parent Meeting 8

Inclement Weather • In case of inclement weather, the coach will determine if there will be a practice. At games, the home team’s coach is responsible for determining whether the game will be started. Once play begins, the umpire is responsible for determining whether play should be halted. In all cases, unless you receive a communication from your team’s coach or manager, you should appear at the site of the game or practice as scheduled. Weather conditions can vary widely even over short distances, so our policy is to make the decision at the field site. Games and practices will be suspended when lightning is visible. If you (parent/guardian) are not able to be present during an event, be sure that your child knows another parent who will be present with whom he/she can take shelter if bad weather suddenly threatens. 2016 BTB TRYOUT INFO Important Notes for Parents and Players Regarding Tryouts • Parents, please have players check in 15 minutes before the start time of their group. • Tryouts are closed for the benefit of your child. Parents are not allowed in the cage areas at Triple Play or inside on the fields at the Savage Dome during tryouts. • Players should be dressed for cooler weather at the Savage Dome and should wear tennis shoes or rubber-molded cleats (tennis shoes only at Triple Play). • Players must bring their own bats, helmets and gloves. Players must wear a protective cup for all fielding evaluations. The only time a player will not need a protective cup is for the batting evaluation. • Players MAY NOT wear any clothing that has their first and/or last name visible to evaluators. Players will be given a tryout number when they check in to be worn throughout the tryout process. BTB 2016 Parent Meeting 27
Important Notes for Parents and Players Regarding Tryouts (continued) • Please keep things in perspective, and don’t lose sight of the big picture. • The purpose of tryouts is to place kids at the competitive level best suited for them this year. This will not affect a player’s “baseball status” in Burnsville for life! Rosters change every year, and the varsity coaches don’t care what level your son played at in youth baseball. • Kids grow and develop at different speeds. It is impossible to predict now who might be the top players down the road or even next year. • It’s often a much better situation to be a top player on a lower team than a bottom player on a higher team, as there are usually more opportunities to play a key role and better odds of individual success. • Do not allow your potential disappointment over what level your child ends up at to ruin his season. Everyone that makes a team gets the opportunity to play baseball with their friends! BTB 2016 Parent Meeting 28
Burnsville Traveling Baseball Tryout Evaluation Key • Players are divided into groups of approximately 8 -10 players. Potential coaches as well as independent evaluators from outside the program or from a different age level will evaluate the players. • Players are evaluated and graded in three areas: hitting, fielding and throwing. • The pitching/catching evaluation is not required but is strongly recommended. The pitching/catching evaluation is used to help potential coaches determine who can pitch/catch but may also separate players that are close in their evaluations. • A final workout will be held to help validate the grading. Like the pitching/catching portion, it is also optional but strongly recommended. After this final look, player selections are completed. • The age-level directors and potential coaches will structure the final workout for their age group. The potential coaches will then meet with board members to determine teams. If there is more than one team at the same level (AA or A), a “draft” will be held to try to form as equal teams as possible. ***The Age-Level Director is responsible for running the tryout. *** BTB 2016 Parent Meeting 29

Pitching/Catching Player evaluations for these events are not figured in to the total tryout score. However, they can be used to assist the potential coaches in determining inhouse reassignments and team selection. Pitching: • The purpose of the pitching evaluation is to give the potential coaches a look at potential pitchers. Warm-ups: • Each player will get 10 warm-up pitches thrown from the warm-up mound. Evaluation: • Each player will pitch 10 balls from the evaluation mound and will be evaluated after the pitches are completed. Typically the player will throw fastballs. Final Look/Workout: Game situations, final look, additional hitting/throwing/fielding, etc. may be used at the discretion of the ALDs and potential coaches. BTB 2016 Parent Meeting 36

Any emails sent prior to the completion of the cooling-off period will be deleted without being read. BTB 2016 Parent Meeting 37
In-House Reassignments: • A player who does not make a traveling team will be re-registered with BAC In-House Baseball. Your fee that you have paid will be transferred to the in-house program, minus the tryout fee, as indicated during your registration. • We regret that since In-House Baseball teams may already be formed at the time that Traveling Baseball makes its selections, it is unlikely that you will be placed on your neighborhood/school team. • If you selected a refund instead of a transfer to In-House, that money will be refunded to you as soon as possible. Thank you all for participating in the Burnsville Traveling Baseball program for the 2016 season. Have a great year, and please remember: Your child’s success or lack thereof in sports does not indicate what kind of parent you are. But having an athlete that is coachable, respectful, a great teammate, hard-working and resilient IS a direct reflection of your parenting. BTB 2016 Parent Meeting 45
